Peter, you're probably more familiar with the 'secrets of the Kiev 4' than most. I'd not even attempt adjustment, cleaning or repair. But if my new 4a keeps shooting for a few years, that's all I'll ask of it. It's not one of my main cams so I can be fairly casual about its quirks.

I just recently got a 4A from the 'bay, with the Helios lens. The first roll I put through it I found a light leak. Ruben from RFF immediately diagnosed my problem. Apparently non of the these cameras had a foam seal. He put cotton in his to cure it and recommended the same for me. I just haven't gotten to it yet, but will. I kind of like the little beastie.

Kievs are noted for light leaks. Dark yarn will work or I use foam I had left over from an SLR overhaul.

I own a Kiev4, which I bought on e-bay and came from Israel. The camera feels somewhat rough compared to other rangefinders I own, but functions perfectly including the meter. I must say the lenses a Jupiter 8M (50mm) and a Jupiter 12 (35mm) give marvellous results. For both lenses I bought a lens hood at Heavystar which makes them perform even better.
