Hi folks,
I recieved a lens I got on eBay today, it's a Sigma 21-35mm lens, canon FD mount. for my AE-1P. It's in exc. shape and seems to be pretty sharp.
Anyone know anything about these lenses?
Thanks
Jules

Hi, I doubt it. Nothing on the lens indicates so. I did find out a bit about it, iy sold for over 1500 USD new, whoa, was touted as a very nice lens, and had a 7 year factory guarantee, as did all sigmas at one time. Interesting. I shot one roll on Cheap film and got the pics back and I'm very impressed. I need to scan them in to really see whats up. Cheers Jules

When I used to run a Canon T-70 kit, my main 2 lenses were a 35-80 and an 80-210 Sigma zooms. Very nice lenses. Sounds like you got a great lense there my friend. Excellent for lanscapes and street work.

Jules: I've never used Sigma lenses, but they have a good reputation. My son (the photographer) used to have several of them for his Canon DSLR series of cameras. He said they were very good, but didn't think they were quite as good as his Canon glass...so he sold them and bought all new Canon lenses. That being said, I'm not as fussy as he is, most days!

Jules, I am not any kind of authority on lenses. I do have two Sigmas. Sigma UC Zoom 70 - 210 mm F4 - 5.6 New FD Mount. Sigma Mirror-Telephoto Multi Coated 600 mm f8 Breech Lock FD Mount. I am very pleased with both of them. Good construction. Smooth focussing. The zoom is very good, smooth and non slip. Mickey

Jules,
There are a number of "3rd. party' lenses out there that are quite good. What one must look for is a model that is their top of the line and not the bottom.
Then, as is true with all lenses, one must learn the pros and cons of that individual lens for the photogs particular use.
Having retired and less 'moola' to spend, I consider a 3rd. party lense more and more at a purchase time.
A number of pros use and 'swear' by such lenses as Sigma and Tokina especially. Now how much of that testimony is due to a free lense or what have you from the manufacturer may be a question.

Mickey,
There are two pros who shoot Nikon cameras that are using a lot of Tokina lenses, appear in some of the ads and adamantly endorse them. The two are John Herbst and Moose Peterson.
In the Sigma ads you will see a number of asian pros advocating their lens as used by them exclusively.
I would imagine Tokina and Sigma supply the lenses to them free in exchange for their endorsemnts. Not sure if there may be any other perks in addition.
