Here's a question that comes to mind now and then. What other pursuits/hobbies do you have other than camera collecting? Does your other hobby or pastime interact with your cameras or photography hobby?........Myself, I'm into cars, trucks, and trains. I've been building plastic car models since 1957. I collect 1/18th scale diecast cars (11 to 12 inches long), I'm also into model railroading and photographing trains (railfanning). I have an old Dodge Sport Pickup I'm hotrodding too. So little time and money, and so many plans.

Music, reading, writing, walking, cooking -- I guess those are my main other interests. I like jazz and classical music, a bit of rock, and I play acoustic guitars (6- and 12-string), a bit of acoustic bass guitar, and a tiny bit of 5-string banjo. I was in a folk trio for some time and still get together with friends for jamming and singing. About the only one of these that combines with my photography on a regular basis is walking.

Well, Randy......
Besides the Camera hobby...I am also in the Firearms hobby. Collect a bit handguns and rifles. Belong to a local gun club and we do have an outdoor range. I have a concealed carry permit. I shoot my pistols often and carry for self-defense. In co-ordination with that I also am a reloader. (means I make my own ammo., reusing the brass casings of factory ammo I have shot) I enjoy that VERY much. It is a completely mechanical process and is very satisfying and relaxing. Seems in this computer day and age...to be able to create something mechanically is quite a nice contrast. And the only way the Gun hobby co-ordinates with the Camera hobby is sometimes it takes me to places that are sometimes natural and interesting----good places to capture some images!

Here's a question that comes to mind now and then. What other pursuits/hobbies do you have other than camera collecting? Does your other hobby or pastime interact with your cameras or photography hobby? Painting (not house...watercolor, acrylic, oil); a voracious reader...sometimes known to devour a novel a day over a Christmas vacation; a writer...have published many business articles and one short story (and I have a shoebox full of rejection slips); gardening...love the color of all those flowers; old cars...watching, not collecting; computers, and my web site. Like Gene, I enjoy smooth jazz, classical (but not opera), classic rock, and blues. I took piano lessons as a kid, but went on to play the trumpet (orchestra and marching band...a little jazz combo on the side). But it's been years since I even opened the case...I'm sure I've lost the "lip" by now.

Firearms, reading, music.
In music I particularly like Big Band (Miller, Kaempfert, Shaw Dorsey etc.) and 1950's & 1960's Rock-a-Billy, early Rock, Do-Wop and Carolina Beach Music. I could listen to well-played Gershwin all day. The Standards - torch songs - are a particular favorite too.

Randy,
I seem to be a collector. If I get one of something it could be the first of many.
I collect cameras, model airplane engines, trains in N, HO, HOn3, On30 scales, diecast cars in 1/43, 1/24 and 1/18, Winchester .22 rifles, baseball cards, smoking pipes, car and train books, DVD's on airplanes, submarines, cars and others and other assorted things.
If I ever get started selling stuff on Ebay I could make a small fortune.
My wife's hobby is remodeling the house and I am constantly working on her latest project. We just did the kitchen over for close to 30 grand and now she has a tile guy coming to do a 10' X 40' area by the pool. The tile will match the kitchen & dining room so when you step through the sliding glass door the floor will continue to the pool area.
Now I'm tearing the back bathroom apart for a redo.

Football! We've just sold our first team goalkeeper - a week before the season starts - All aboard the roller-coaster!
Dan
No Double 0 gauge? I have a set in the loft, most of it boxed. As you say, if I ever decide to sell anything, it must be worth a tidy sum... LOL
Regards - John
ps I once sailed on a mail-ship - a large passenger liner. Our Second Radio Officer (I was Fourth at the time), had an N-gauge layout laid out on a small platform at the head of his bunk. That was one of the best chat-up lines I ever heard - "Come up to my cabin and see my train-set".... !!

Like a lot of people here I enjoy blues, jazz (particularly trad jazz), big bands and classic rock. I too used to play trumpet till I lost my front teeth but now I play - or like to think I play - poor imitations of Eric Clapton, Brian May, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck et al on my Fender Stratocaster. Other than that I tinker with restoring cameras, naturally, and do quite a bit of reading.
I used to restore all sorts of things: classic cars, old clocks, old typewriters, old sewing machines ... anything mechanical, but gradually lost the urge except for cameras. I spent hours in my darkroom when I had one, but now it's a desk-top electronic darkroom. I also used to enjoy golf, but an arthritic leg put an end to that, and to tennis.
And, of course, I love being with my children and grandchildren - grandchildrens' ages from 21 to 4. Unfortunately I don't see some of them as often as I'd like to, they live too far away to drop in for a hello and a cuppa, even using motorways.
But I seem to keep busy. Often there just aren't enough hours in the day.
PeterW.

....wine making, photography, golf though I don't get to play so much, and I know many here are parents, I really love being a dad, it is great. I also enjoy being a dad...and a grandpa...but I'm into wine drinking, not making, and I play at golf, but don't really like the game...it's only fun when I enjoy the company of the rest of the foursome!
