And here's my GAF/CHINON L-CS in Taupe Sea Snake from Pardner's Leather. I love how CHINON gave us an extra place up on the prism for more leather. Nice design.

Randy, Good-looking cameras. You can't beat a reupholstered camera for a classy look. I got my lizarard skins from Camera Leather. Perfect fit and already have adhesive applied to back. Very simple to do. cameraleather.com/

Gee...now that I think about it, I would think Ron would have at least one Black Mamiya with black & white Cobra Skin on it? ;D

Nice jobs.

Gee...now that I think about it, I would think Ron would have at least one Black Mamiya with black & white Cobra Skin on it? ;D I've recovered a couple of Mamiya rangefinders, but I always used black, and as close a match to the original as I could find. Just my conservative nature, I guess....

I know where there's some nice snake skins Ron, but you would have to cut and measure and glue for Mamiyas, I don't think anybody makes a kit for them. You should modify at least one though, I get a real kick out of it. You should see people look when they see what you are using, I've had a lot of people walk up and say, "hey, what kind of camera is that?" "wow, that must have cost a fortune!" and of course I just say, naw...I did it myself. lol

Beautifully done, Randy. Top drawer workmanship. I like to see cameras like this but, like Ron, if I recover I try to get as close as I can to the original grain and colour - usually black. That's because my tendencies are towards restoration rather than trying to be creative - which your work certainly is. Probably comes from a teenage association with the family antiques business, a world where any work which isn't as close as possible to the original is looked on as sacrilige. Oh, all right then. I admit it. I just haven't got much creative talent. If I tried something like this it would probably look as out of place as a cinema Wurlitzer in a medieval cathedral. . PeterW

Dan,
I will post pictures of my blue XD-7 soon. I am waiting for a red leather for a black XD-7 - and I decided to wait posting the pictures until the second job is done.
Randy,
looks like You managed to find Your own style... I like the idea of releathering the winder, too.
Peter W,
Yes, I understand Your attitude. I ordered the red leather in the very moment, when I got the second black XD-7 - I keep one in the original black leather. I didn't look upon the silver XD-7 as a collectible however. It is just a tool - a tool I like very much however. I would however not dare to exchange the (intact) leather of my Hassie...
Best regards Peter

I look at it like this, all the cameras that I've recovered were in less than desirable condition when I got them. So it makes them better and a little special when I do that. When you have 30 Minolta SRTs, one dressed up makes the whole crowd look better. Most camera collectors are aware of the XD's leather shrinkage problems and both of mine looked like they were wearing bikinis. If mine were dressed up in black leatherette they would look just like anyone elses, and I'm not like anyone else, I'm different...a rebel...one that marches to a different drummer. So I'll stand by my decision to recover some of my cameras, because I'm not afraid to be different.
