Hi, I recieved my new Braun SR 2000 this afternoon. This is a quite new and very modern manual exposure 35mm SLR. MIne came with two lenses, a 28-70mm 3.4-4.8 and a 70-210mm 4.0-5.6. Nice lenses that I hope produce nice images. Also came with a beautiful bag that is made by Braun.
The camera uses the Minolta MD mount so lenses should be easy to find. Shutter speeds range from 1 sec to 1/2000 sec and B. It uses the old faithful 3 LED system for showing if the image is going to be exposed correctly, or if it is under- or overexposed. Very easy to use. Power is from 2 LR44 or equivalent cells, so they are easy to find when they need replacing. It is quite small and relatively light, but still quite solid feeling.
I think this is going to be my take around film SLR from now on (my camera club will have another camera as a loaner when I get one). Now all I need to do is get some nice fast primes in MD mount and I will be set.

Here is what my SR 2000 looks like. It is very compact for an SLR, even smaller than my Fujica ST605N's, but seeing as i have small hands I am not fussed by it's small size. Heath

It was made by Jiangxi Optical Instrument General Factory in China for Phenix of Taiwan. There were other names under which the various Phenix were sold, Vivitar etc.
I have the Vivitar Pentax K mount version and it is a very well made camera for it's type. The Optics supplied are Chinese usually, although other badged versions had Tiawan or Japanese made optics.
Since the Chinese started making cameras, their reputation has improved a lot, and these days most digital cameras are made in China anyway.
With Braun it is very much a re-badging job, as by the time these were made Braun had closed it's own camera making factories. They were only marketed in Germany.
Most Phenix and variants are low in price, the Braun name pushes it up a bit, but they are still available at rock bottom prices, as modern film reflexes are just unpopular nowadays
