This L-17 was one of those 'seller not a camera dealer' and 'don't know if it works' deals. Well despite not having a lens, the meter worked great! The leatherette was falling off this one too.

A CLA and a lens got it working in short order. The peeling leatherette was replaced with red lizard skin cut and fit by yours truly! Randy Jay

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but since I've had this board up there hasn't been much discussion on Chinon family cameras. This GAF L-17 is a wonderfull camera with a Copal Shutter, double exposure ability and a battery check button. Anyone else use one of these?

Hi Randy, Nope, no L-17 but I do have my cherished GAF L-CS, Chinon CS (x2), and Miranda badged Chinon CE-5, Albinar MS-2 badged Chinon CM5, and my latest Revueflex badged Chinon CE-5. Do These count? P.S. the Miranda, Albinar and Revueflex all use the ever popular K mount.

Randy,
I don't own the GAF L-17 but I do own two GAF L-ES cameras. They're wonderful.
Am I allowed to post a link to my website where I blogged about the GAF L-ES ? Hope so.
I took a 50mm lens that once had taken a photo of Muhammad Ali in the 1970's up close (that's its history) and I screwed it onto my GAF L-17. I took beautiful photos for me.
I'll have to return to your forum to learn more about doing the "lizard skin" thing for some of my tattered cameras.
Best Wishes,
Richard
