JJ, I may have spotted your problem. Above your flickr photo there's a menu bar with several choices. Click "All Sizes". When the image appears, scroll down. Below the image are two choices. You want #2. Copy the image url and paste it between the [/img] brackets. Bill

Ritz camera used to offer different camera coverings in the 70's and early 80's on the cameras they sold. Don't know if they offered it on camera's sent in to them or not. I'll have to look at my old magazines.

Praise the Lord, I seem to have managed at last. I know how to take a picture with most types of cameras but computer wizzardry has never been a strong point of mine. But there you have it. Thank you Cameracollector for your support.

I'll have to look at my old magazines. Yeah! Ruggedized!! I remember that. They also had a Quantaray labeled, K-mount version of the Topcon RE 200. I think it was called R2D2 or something like that. I have a Quantaray, but it's a re-badged Zenit.

That's the one, Curt! I assume it is "K" mount. I have two of the Topcon badged variants with the Topcon RE mount. None too reliable but I did buy them off the dead shelf at a repair shop. Never quite sure who to pin them on. One Japanese site says Cima, others think our favorite manufacturer (Cosina) was involved.
JJ, Your Konicas look fabulous!

Hi Bill, I had great fun doing them. I made a pattern by gluing 3 layers of masking tape on the camera and carefully cutting it out wth an exacto knife. You can then glue the masking tape pattern on the upper face of the leatherof your choice, and cut. A set of punches comes handy for the holes. Thick and soft pigskin is my favourite. It has an unbelievably warm and spongy-like feel to it when it's all done. Another advantage is that it's stretchy, so if you've cut your pattern 1/32'' shy of the edge, you ca tug it sideways a little when you glue it down. My next project will be stripping the paint remnants off a badly brassed Autoreflex T3, polishing the brass and finding deep brown of burgundy garb for the camera. Should look absolutely smashing cheers, jj

As a kid, the black always looked more "pro" to me, but there are at least a few models I do not think look as good in black. Minolta XD-11, for example, looks better in chrome. IMHO. They made some limited editions in black and it just never grabbed me this way.

There used to be story current around the time of the Vietnam war that combat photographers didn't like chrome cameras because they could refect the sunlight and give a sniper a target to aim at, so they painted their chrome cameras black.
How true this is I don't know, but it's a nice story, and from then on black became associated with 'pro' cameras.

PS. Come to think of it, it might have been the Korean war in the early 1950s. Memory dims over the years. PW

My 1st camera was a Prinzflex Super TTL [ Chinon with shutter dial on the front ] I went for black 'cos all the Pros use black . It was painted over chrome LOL . Picked up a perfect one on e-bay looking really tacky - so painted it in with acrylic for that rough and ready look . I now like the vintage feel of chrome cameras - such as my Leica M8 and Dig 3 , but love my twin black Leica IIs and Minolta SRTs . I understood that Pro users used to put black tape on cameras to make them less obtrusive - another tall tale ?

I STILL have a pile of Nikons. Considering starting a collection of Ricoh SLRs and RFs.

Dee,
I every once in a while I'll see a movie featuring some photographer - and his camera will have the name taped over with black tape. Trying to avoid copyright issues, maybe?

Mark Mark, i've seen that quite often as well, i always assumed whomever was producing the movie didnt get any sponsor money, as such didnt feel like giving away free advertising..so they stick a bit of black tape over it....i get a kick out of seeing what model cameras appear in the movies, particularly older movies

I painted out the tacky Prinzflex name and Dulux white ' TTL ' on day one - just as I did to the Pentax K 10D - I like looking for cameras in movies too .
