Mickey, I can almost smell that new-baked bread from here. One of my three favourite smells; the other two are coffee beans being roasted and bacon being grilled. I know the K100D has image stabilisation but even so that's a pretty sharp pic for 1/15 sec hand held. I'll take a guess you used the viewfinder and had your left elbow nicely braced against your body. I'm still getting used to the *istDL2 I've got on loan from John, and there's no way I could get a sharp pic at 1/15 using the screen at the back. I just can't find a grip that will hold it steady enough when it's far enough away from my eye to see the screen. Anyone cracked that problem? I'm glad you let on about leaning against a post for the 1/10 sec shot of the peppers or I would have been very envious about your steadiness. Mind you, unless I'm sitting in my electric buggy when I'm out taking pics I have to lean against something or I'd fall over . PeterW

PeterW,
I too was surprised when the photos turned out. I really couldn't tell until I put them on the computer. I have your excellent lesson on how to hold a camera to thank. I now make a conscious effort to hold it correctly with every shot I take. I often use a post or wall or tree or anything that is steadier than I when I am shooting in dim light.
"Anyone cracked that problem?" I have. I always use the viewfinder and would not even consider a camera without one. The screen on the back is only of use to inform me that my photo has been captured by the camera, not whether it is good or bad.
I am beginning to envy you your buggy. My 6 year old knee replacement ( It's called an Oxford for the place in some far away land where it was invented.) is starting to cause me some problems. I am waiting for an appointment with my orthopaedic surgeon to see if some duct tape and bailing wire can make the thing behave.
Mickey
P.S. May I add chocolate to your list of favourite smells? I grew up within smelling distance of a Nielson's chocolate factory and have been addicted ever since. M.O.

One of my major weaknesses is bread and pastry, I can imagine the aroma it gets me every time. Now I'll have to go and get some bakery bread. Best of luck with your knees.

This picture was seen by my wife and I had to drive 50 miles round trip to find a bakery and get some fresh bread.

Peter, why do you need to use the screen on the back when taking a picture? Don't you just use the reflex viewing system like any other SLR?

Rachel'
Yes, I do, but I tried using the screen for the same reason that people give for climbing a mountain - because it's there.
