This road loops around the cemetary and doesn't lead anywhere. I just like the view. I think it could use some improvement, any suggestions would be appreciated. Doug

Crop the top third of the sky the sky. Also, I think it would work better if there was something in the foreground to give the viewer a better perspective of distance.

I like the view, but I agree with Wayne. The "horizon" is almost in the middle of the picture so it lacks a base. I also agree about the lack of foreground interest. If you can repeat the picture easily, try having someone just walking into the picture on the left hand side of the road. As well as adding foreground interest and helping the sense of distance this will lead viewers eyes towards the bend in the road and make them wonder what's round there. Quite often in a picture, anticipation is better than realisation. Also I think it could do with a touch more brightness and contrast. The lighting is flat and the picture's almost all middle tones. If you get the chance to retake it maybe the lighting will be more interesting but if not, and you've got PS you can help it along with either Levels or Curves. I expect most other image editing programs have something similar. PeterW

Hi guys! You're absolutely right. The horizon bothers me and there should be something leading into it. It's a site that is readily available to me, so the next time I'm up there, I'll give it another shot. I try not to manipulate too much, preferring filters to photoshop. Thanks for the input Doug

I always find road photos fascinating. Must be the wanderlust in me, I always wonder what's around that next bend, who made these and where they go.

Hi Doug ! I would agree with Wayne and Peter in reducing the top third of the sky, but I think it is not always necessary to place something in the foreground. I posted a similar picture about a year ago ( taken on a foggy day ). I like that theme MIK

MIK.
In the case of your shot (which is very good, by the way) the color makea a big difference--the brown tracks contrasting the green. Plus the grave vines in the middle ground and the bush on the left side establish perspective.

MIK,
Beautiful with subdued colours. That is what makes the picture.
Without the colour - blah.

Thank you all for the input. I'll give it another go this weekend, and Mickey, this time in color. It was taken as a B&W shot and I can't colorize it I did take a color shot a couple of feet to the left, looking down the valley. Is this one any better? Doug
