Hi ! Last Sunday I visited a nature reserve at the border to Hungary. It consists of a number of salty lakes, which will dry in summer. It was my third attempt to go there, the first time I had forgotten my telephoto ( what a shame !), the second time I had to turn halfway between because of a heavy thunder storm. Last weekend was perfect, sunshine, about 30°C and a colleague, who knows the names and details of all these migratory birds, came with me. I had to look up the translated names of the birds in the dictionary, I hope they are correct. A Barn Swallow, a common bird elsewhere, the first I spied here. Grey goose biplane A Lapwing flying by A formation of Sthingybills Redshank A Sthingybill looking for food Two Black-winged Stilts, these guys are pretty fast ! I don’t know why this bird is called Little Egret, it is quite huge. A Goose family shouting at the photographer MIK I just noticed that my translation for the white Ibis with the significant beak ihas ben automatically converted to "Sthingybill", which I suspect not makes sense...

Spo onbill but remove the gap between the 'o's . It doesn't like po o
A bit of a bird watching weekend for both of us! I particularly like the biplane.
We used to get lots of lapwings (also known as peewits - after their call) in a field that had a pond near to us. There seem to be very few now. Skylarks have just about disappeared too. Modern farming (and land being built on) seems to have wiped out the Skylarks. I peewits might just have re-located to the Dee estuary.
I really enjoyed the pictures. Excellent. MIK, thanks.

MIK,
They are excellent pictures.
I thought our censorious censor's objection was to s p o o n which long ago and far away meant necking.

Mickey, you could well be right. I'll try pool. If that is okay then it doesn't mind being in the poo.

Looks like you are getting pretty handy with that telephoto lens with some difficult to track subjects. A weekend well spent, thanks for posting.

Thank you for you kind comments, guys . Here is another picture of a bird we could first not identify. My colleague sent it to an official bird watching organization and they said this is a real sensation, only a few of them are known in Austria and only one had been watched this year: It`s a Squacco Heron. Even a small lake can bear many secrets ! MIK
