Just returned from an eight-day, 1,500-mile journey to the Pacific Coast in a 22-foot travel trailer with Sara, our granddaughter, Grace, and Asher the dog. Below are some images of the southern coast of Oregon. More to come. Nikon D300, 18-200mm Nikkor Wayne

Sara looks ecstatic. She must have enjoyed the trip and the spectacular scenery as much as her grandparents. Perhaps, Wayne, it is time to give her a camera.

Wayne, I'm looking forward to seeing more. I've not been to Oregon (in fact, of the USA, I've only managed Florida thus far) but through the lens of your camera I'm beginning to believe that I have.
Mickey, I might be mistaken but I think that the lovely girl in the first photo is Grace.

Mickey, I might be mistaken but I think that the lovely girl in the first photo is Grace. Dave, I too may be mistaken but that comma after "granddaughter, tells me otherwise. Your way should read "Sara, our grandaughter Grace and Asher...." Okay, Wayne. clear this up before we resort to fisticuffs. Mickey

Mickey, you're absolutely right in terms of the way the sentence is written, but, comparing this with previous photos, she looks like Grace.

OK guys, knock it off. My fault. That is Grace, our granddaughter. I quit writing my weekly newspaper column and within a couple of months I can't write a simple sentence. Dave: The entire coast of Oregon, Washington (and some of northern California) has a very rugged beauty. Not many swimming beaches. Here's another shot of GRACE at the beach about a two-minute walk from our camp. Wayne

Mickey, no score to me - I was pretty sure that I recognised her from previous photos.
Wayne, the coast of rugged beauty - and fogs (or so I believe).
I have always lived near the coast. The furthest away I have ever lived was the year I had in Caerphilly, South Wales, which was all of about ten miles from the coast - albeit not the best part. I'm not sure how I would take to living inland.

Dave:
I'm just the opposite--a desert dweller born and bred. Tried living on the coast in my 20s and after 6 moths and 60 inches of rain I got back to the interior as fast as possible. I enjoy visiting the coast but the only reason I would consider living there is the moist climate keeps my hands and feet from constantly drying and peeling.

It's probably all down to that old saying "we know what we like, and we like what we know".
Mind you there are some coasts around the world which get almost no rain. Arica, in the north of Chile has an average annual rainfall of 0.03 inches. Inland is even worse (or better depending how you look at it): It hasn't rained for 400 years.

Looks like you had a good time and saw some great scenery too judging from the photos.

Not even going to go into what gas for a 1,500-mile trip at 9 miles per gallon works out to. But when you figure we usually cooked in the trailer and the campgrounds were considerably cheaper than hotel rooms it wasn't that much more costly that staying in hotels and eating in restaurants.

I came to the same conclusion. You are going to pay either way so just pick the one that you like.
