Without a doubt this has to be the smallest camera in my collection. As a child I remember seeing the ads in the back of comic books for these types of cameras. It is exceptionally well made and as can be seen from the pictures has shutter speeds of 1/25, 1/50, 1/100 and B and the lens is a 1 :4.5 f=20mm. It also has 4 f stops, 4.5, 5.6, 8 and 11. An absolutely amazing piece of workmanship for a product that was geared for children! For more information check out this web site mycro.jp/en/index.html

Hi ! I also love these Japanese "Hit"-type cameras. Over the years I found a dozen different models. My "Mycro" is named "IIIA" and came from Sugaya, Japan. MIK

I do not have any of the Hit type cameras but I recall when they sold for a dollar or two in souvenir stores.
Today they are a specialized and popular field of camera collecting.

I realize now that I should have properly referred to this style of camera as "novelty" and not toy. It just was I remember them so much from my childhood. MIK From what I gather from the Mycro web site mine is the Type II, early version as it does not have the connector for the cable release. Mikey This is how I remember seeing them as a child, I never did see any at a souvenir stores but we rarely traveled when I was young. uts.cc.utexas.edu/~ifex534/cameras/hit_ad.jpgCurt The one pictured is my only one also, I ran across one of the HIT type at an outdoor antiques fair but the owner wanted more than I was willing to spend and he wouldn't dicker. Larry (I figured since I was planning on being here for a while I should use my name and not just a handle ;D)

I remember the ads from the back of comic books. Sometimes they were called spy cameras because they were so small. I have only seen a couple in person at camera shows or flea markets.

Hi Larry! Every now and then I'll spot a Hit type camera at one of the local antique shops, they usually want upwards of 25 bucks for one! When I was in grade school, I got one by sending in some cereal box tops and can still remember using it Yours looks a lot nicer than the ones I recall. Doug

I had one of that type yeaaaars ago. I don't remember it being that well made however. It was very tinny--along the lines of the stamped metal toys made by Japan right after the war.

Hi guys! I found this while re-reading an old Pop Photo Magazine from 1948. I think the neatest part is the price they were asking for it. It seems like quite a lot for the times, don't you think? Doug

Hi Doug,
That ad is amazing! From one source I've seen on the internet $16.50 in 1948 is equal to $155.02 today! I guess that is why it is so well made, they were marketing it as an actual camera and not as a "Spy" or "Novelty". I also got the "n"everady case with it. It is in rougher shape than the camera and like all of the cases I own I have stored them to keep them from being damaged any more.

Hi Larry! Here's another one, same magazine. My scanner died, so I used a copy board, my tripod, and a couple of lights. Still works for me Doug
