Hi All! Barb and I went to one of the local shopping malls today, they were having an Orchid Show. We both love flowers and plants, so we got a lot of nice shots. I apologize for not paying attention to the names of each type. In some of the shots I left the name tags included in the photo. More to follow. Doug

Can't blame you for taking those nice photos, for some reason orchids are one flower I can't resist photographing either. I generally just take a photo and don't pay much attention to the names of things. Very good idea to include the name tag in the photo.

I am waiting for my orchid to open up, probably another few weeks until they are all open.

Doug, splendid. There are so many types (running into tens of thousands) of orchid you might just as well make the name up. No one will know for sure if it is the correct name or not! ;D

I have always felt ambiguous about orchids. Most are beautiful. Some are not. Today's orchid craze which may be found in most grocery stores and supermarkets consists of a few attractive blossoms atop a long, 18" or so scrawny stem stuck in a tiny flower pot. Not an appealing combination.
The most beautiful orchid I ever saw was the one I bought for my date to a school dance. She wore it on her wrist. A beautiful flower on a beautiful setting. I was broke for weeks afterward. She, the setting, became my wife of forty years.

My orchid finally decided to open a few days ago, and there are seven more left to open (9 flowers on one stalk). Andy

I am going to assume it is a Nikon flavour 180/2.8 you are referring to. If it is that fits right in with my experience with them also. They are a pretty amazing lens being both sharp and smooth at the same time, if that makes sense.

There are almost as many types of razor these days as there species of orchid. The trouble for both is that the most popular isn't necessarily the best. The commercial orchids have been cultivated for the longevity of the blooms: each new razor seems to be selected for having one more blade than the last model which was in its time the "ultimate". Many, if not most, of the orchids sold in pots are from the genus Phalaenopsis. Andy's orchid is the twin of the plant we had some months back:
