Another slick old Ford came to visit my shop today. This one was a 1940 Ford Deluxe 2 dr sedan. The color is "Candy Loganberry'" The engine is a built-up, balanced and blueprinted 351 Cleveland, the front suspension is Mustang II, 9" Ford rear end. Air conditoned, C-6 automatic. Built as a comfortable daily driver by the current owner's father. The car has been driven coast to coast twice. NICE RIDE! The flames visible in the last picture are called "ghost" flames. They are only visible when the light is at the correct angle. Roy

Roy, Another sweet ride! I think I'm going to have to come through your shop one of these days The only beef I have with it is the spinners on the mags. They probably look a lot better close up. I had a Suzuki GS850 (hence the Zook) that I painted using a Chromo purple and gold. Did a good job too. The fellow that I gave the bike to painted it over in flat black Doug

Sweet ride and finally some decent displacement. That "Candy Loganberry" looks classy.

The spinners are supposed to imitate the spinners used on real race car wheels, but to me, they don't look right with five chrome lug nuts right behind them.
That is a very nice car. I like the subtle flames. I'm glad to see a Ford engine. It seems that so many hot rodders use a Ford chassis but default to a Chevy engine because they are easier to find parts for.

All very nice, but the steering wheel looks to be on the wrong side of the car! ;D
I love the colour.

All very nice, but the steering wheel looks to be on the wrong side of the car! ;D I love the colour. I too love the colour but don't you dare move the steering wheel. Do you know there is a whole misguided country somewhere across the Atlantic where almost everyone is forced to use those insane wrong sided steering wheels. Do you know what side of the road they drive on? Not the right side. Do you know what they wear on their heads? Not bonnets. Do you know what they wear on their feet? Not boots. Do you know what soft lullabies their babies hear? Not Loo, Loo, Loo. Mickey

I have to admit I never cared as much for the looks of the 1937-1940 Fords--something about the grill. Mechanically there wasn't a whole lot of difference between them and the earlier Ford V8s, except the later ones had hydraulic brakes and the earlier ones had mechanical brakes.
Something else the Fords of that period didn't have was reciprocating steering. If you turned a sharp corner it took just as much energy to bring the steering wheel back to center as it did to make the turn--sort of hard to explain unless you have experienced it. I certainly wouldn't have wanted that type of steering on a Grand Prix car.
One nice thing about the Fords of that period. If you had a sedan you could take out about 30 bolts, lift off the body and replace with a coupe body utilizing exactly the same bolt holes. I did that once. The one problem was many of the bolts were rusted and I had to drill the heads off, lying on my back, under the car, outside, in the dead of winter.
