Roy - I don't stay as current on Mamiya medium-format stuff, but $250 for a working Mamiya 645 with lens is a great price. However, I tend to steer clear of auctions where the seller says " I don't know anything about cameras" and can't tell you if it focuses, if the shutter trips correctly, etc. ----- BTW - Not sure what that gizmo is...unless it's some sort of focusing aid.

Roy, that "gizmo" is a poorly mounted rapid focusing arm. It allows much quicker rotation of the focusing collar than using just your fingers.
The M645 uses a PX-28 silver oxide 6v battery that is commonly available and will last forever. The picture shows a non-meter prism and the 80mm f/2.8 standard lens is very sharp.
Assuming that it has a 120 film insert (and not the 220 insert) and that it works well, it'll be a fine camera.
