I've read with interest the recent posts about Soligor C/D lenses. I came across a list of builders of Soligor lenses by serial number, sinilar to the Vivitar list. I can't seem to put my hands on it now, but will continue to look for it and post it when I find it. Some makers are the same as Vivitar lenses of the same era, Tokina, Kino Optical (Kiron) and possibly Komine being cases in point.
The parallel distribution by Vivitar and Soligor of the Tokina-built T-4 interchangeable mount lens system is well-documented. Soligor's participation in that series appears to have ended with the introduction of the TX upgrade by Tokina distributed by Vivitar.
I have a two ring 35-70 zoom in M-42 that is a dead ringer for a shorter version of my Vivitar 75-150 close focus made by Kino(Kiron). It has a wobbly focus element. With the exception of that issue, the lens is in excellent shape, and produces hi-quality images, if one allows the focus element to find it's own level after focussing. Not a problem with stationary or slow moving subjects. At least there is NO zoom creep! Here are a couple of images taken with it on the 20D, where it resides a lot of the time:
Sunrise at the Chico State University Farm
Sawdust burner at an old lumber mill in Live Oak, Ca
I remember seeing this thing in operation when I was a kid, and being able to see the red glow for miles. The entire cone would be red hot!
This is @ 40% crop from a negative taken on Fuji 400 with a 35-140 C/D zoom on a Minolta SRT 202:
From this admittedly miniscule sampling, I will not hesitate to grab any C/D lenses that come my way at reasonable prices!
Roy
PS: Anyone have a suggestion on how to tighten up the wobble in the focus group?
