Smokey skies again here in Northern Calif. This was taken late last night thru the smoke of a wildfire burning about 25 miles away. The moon was well above the horizon, and the orange glow would normally have been gone, but for the smoke. Grabbed a quick and dirty shot with an old 400mm long focus Cambron on the 20D Handheld at f8, 1/1500, ISO 1600 handheld. A little noisy, but went with the hi-speed 'cause i was too lazy and tired to drag out the tripod! No post, other than cropping. It really was that color! Roy

Don't know what the dark plumaged, long billed birds are, but there were a lot of them too.
Roy Roy, I am too familiar with the Canada Geese. Be sure to scrape the soles of your shoes before entering your house. As for the other birds check your computer for "glossy ibis". Not being a birder it's all I could find. As soon as I saw it I thought of ancient Egypt. It seems there are American ibis' too. Smokey moon reminded me of my favourite poem, Edna St Vincent Millay's, The End Of Summer. The relevant part is "When smoke from forest fires at noon Can make the sun appear the moon I know that summer scarcely here Is gone until another year." Mickey

Roy, good stuff - apart from the forest fires. From afar at least, they don't see to have been as bad as last year.I am too familiar with the Canada Geese.
"I am too familiar with the Canada Geese." Mickey, you will be glad to hear that those which have holidayed over here have started to consider their return. They should all be back with you withing the next few weeks.

I guess I'll have to put on my rubber boots (Wellies in proper English). Someone suggested sprinkling plaster of paris on our lawns. Mickey

My previous post turned out a little bit gobbledegook, but I think you got the gist of what I was trying to say.
