Not an eBay buy, but I went to my local car boot sale, where I sometimes pick up a few nice items. Looked at a Minolta XG 1 with a lens, offered £2 and that was accepted. Took it home, body is ok - minus, fitted new batteries and to no surprise it is not in working order. The mirror sticks half way up when releasing the shutter button. But the shutter and mirror combination does work intermittently when using the self-timer! So that is off to eBay for spares/repairs. The good news is that the f 2 Minolta MD lens is in quite good condition.
Several hours later, I have gone back to the camera and operated the shutter a few times with the self timer and it now works consistently on the shutter release button! But the led's still don't light up, so it is going off to auction!
Latest! Sold both for £9.50.

Went to the same car boot sale. Found a Minolta XG-9 in immaculate condition, lovely clean mirror and screen, with a very nice Vivitar 28-200 zoom and 72mm Skylight filter, Vivitar 1800 flash. Holster type bag. Put batteries in, all works perfectly. Seller wouldn't budge below £13 but I think it is a good buy!

Its a great buy. I have the 28-200 and it's surprisingly good. Its my walkaround zoom now.

Thank you Phil. The 72mm skylight filter is worth the £13! I even found the original plastic cover for the viewfinder in the bag........

The Vivitar lens was attached to my Nikon DSLR with a MD adaptor that I already had. In Macro mode the shortest focus is around 1 and a half metres I guess. Could be very useful for insect shots etc. I decided to practice with some herbs that I am growing indoors because it is precipitating hard outside.

Yes, Phil, pissed down. This morning I took the XG 9 out with the Vivitar zoom and a MD mount Sigma Macro lens and put a roll of Superia through the camera.

Prints from the XG9 and Vivitar are excellent. Used it with a Sigma 50mm lens as well.

I tried to insert a picture yesterday, but it didn't work. I have now reduced it to 1200 wide and tried again. Scanned on very cheap old HP all in one scanner/printer................
No, doesn't work, I have exceeded my limit!?

What I had forgotten was that I stopped using Photobucket to post photos in another forum about two years ago. I had completely forgotten that!
This issue made me remember, so I went back to Photobucket and transferred a couple of pictures from the Minolta XG-9.
Bear in mind that this was a 7x5 print scanned on a very cheap HP all in one machine, then reduced from 6000 odd mp wide to 1200 wide.
Too much aggro to do it regularly.

Ok, another one scanned with the same scanner and a bit of dust showing. Needs a bit of editing in PS.
