Hi All! I've been having a lot of fun with this, it's easy, so give it a go!! This was taken with my FinePix through the viewfinder of an Anscoflex II. Try it, and post some of your own shots Doug

I'm on the hunt for a crappy old TLR for just this reason. I followed a guy on flickr who was just terrific at viewfinder pictures. I'll have a look for a link. www.flickr.com/photos/friendlyjoefound it,

I thought it a crazy idea Doug, but looking at friendlyjoes collection a unique perspective is achieved. This will appeal to the Lomo brigade, lets keep it on this forum otherwise it will hike up the prices of old TLR's!
I'll take some and post 'em,

Its harder than i imagined getting a digital camera to focus on a ground glass screen. I guess some kind of hood will be needed. Can you show a photo of your set up?

Hi Phil! Here's one of the set-ups I use the most. The length of the hood is the distance from the base of your lens to the surface of the tlr groundglass. You have to have your digital set on macro. I used black foam board from a dollar store, and lots of black library tape to make it light tight. You are actually focusing on the viewfinder, and not the scene itself. I've got a Brownie Starflex that's another of my favorites The cats name is Gracie Puddlepaws. Doug

The Anscoflex does not have a ground glass screen. I forget what it is called - Aerial image? - Virtual image? I am sure someone here can tell us. Mickey

Hi Mickey!
I just called it a ground glass because I couldn't think of the right word.

Mickey, According to the manual, it's just called "the viewfinder". I guess that will have to do. I might play around with it today as it's COLD outside and I don't have anything better to do. Doug BTW, you've got a very entertaining mayor up there. He makes me smile

Doug,
WAIST-LEVEL REFLECTING VIEWFINDERS Simple reflecting viewfinders comprised a small forward-looking lens, a small mirror at 45° behind it, and a lens at the top; the user held the camera at waist level and looked down into the viewfinder, where a small image could be seen. Such viewfinders were integrated into box cameras, and fitted to the side of folding cameras. These viewfinders were fitted to inexpensive cameras.
As for our mayor, Doug Ford. Despite being hounded nearly to death by a pack of voracious jackals who call themselves "the press" and despite his many flaws he has been a very good mayor who has accomplished much of what he promised to do during his election campaign considering his short and perpetually disturbed and interrupted time in office. His approval rating is still very high. Just yesterday he signed up to run again for the same office.

It is an aerial image when there is no ground glass screen And the camera used isn't a TLR - at least in the proper sense. It is fixed focus and has an aerial image viewfinder. With a ground glass, as I have found out, the image is at various brightness over the screen. It is impossible to get the exposure right. Obviously an aerial image VF will be better. My setup: Weltaflex, hood, made from thick card and painted black and a small camera. The last photo was taken with the magnifier up as it caused reflections and with my NEX pointed down it. ...(Doug Ford)Just yesterday he signed up to run again for the same office. I thought he was finished with politics and wasn't running in 2014 because he was going to live abroad later in the year.

I'll wager you never heard him say that. It may have come from the scribblings of a pack member of the yellow press. Mickey

View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentI don't have a fresnel lens but I wonder if that would even out the light distribution on the ground glass. Mickey

Hi All! I was cleaning our church, the same one in the first photo, and some of the candles on a window ledge caught my eye. I wanted to see how close I could get, and I have to say that I got within 3 feet. I got closer at one point, but the distortion was a bit too much. My photo was cropped and resized. No other manipulation was needed. Feel free to critique More on the way! Doug
