Not much Camera equipment collected recently, a quiet period, but I have now found locally an interesting, if fairly modest, wideangle lens, a Ken Corfield retrofocus design wide angle of 35mm F3.5 with manual stop down. It dates from the mid to late 1950's, and appears to have been made by Enna in Germany, as were most of the accessory lenses for the Periflex. But this lens is not a Leica M 39 thread, but M42/Pentax, and has a conversion ring to screw into the Periflex. Ken Corfield did not just manufacture the Periflex, but a range of lenses was imported, and they also imported Exakta and Exa as well to the UK. It needs a clean, it seems it has been stored in the plastic case for many years, the glass and coating are OK, but the aluminium needs a good clean-up. I will test it out on film on my Miranda with a Pentax adaptor, and on the Olympus m4/3, where it will act as a 70mm lens. Usually this type work quite well, it is limited by the small aperture. I recall looking at (and almost buying) a Periflex umpteen years back. There was some reason why I didn't - maybe a fault of some sort, or I bought something else, the Canon Vt perhaps.. Looking back I should have bought it

Although supplied by Ken Corfield, it was never meant to fit the Periflex, it is M42, probably with the Edixa in mind, but has got a conversion ring for Periflex (M39), which of course could take almost all mount lenses via adaptors. Leica owners never bothered with fitting other makes, it was only possible to focus by scale, but the Periflex had the answer with semi-reflex viewing that the periscope provided. They made converters for Exakta, M42, Nikon, and Canon. Stephen.

Sample shot taken via Olympus PM1 at Alexandra Palace London Model Engineering exhibition. Lens seems to work very well indeed, the F3.5 is no problem with digital. Not bad for about 56 years old lens. Stephen

Good shots, Stephen. It's more than 40 years since I was last in the Ally Pally. I spot someone in the photo with a more modern photo taking system. I wonder what his photo turned out like.

I think it is an Ipad, rumoured to be able to take photos! Stephen.

Too small for an iPad: possibly an iPhone. At least it's being held in landscape orientation. 99% use portrait format, even when shooting video.

Bigger Steam, 7 1/2 inch gauge Shay loco on display at Alexandra Palace, and I bet the shot is better than an Ipad shot.... Stephen.
