I was looking around at old cameras this morning and came across my first Camera Crush, which for me was the Minolta XE-7/XE-1. In my opinion, this was the most beautiful SLR ever designed. Some cameras look a little incomplete without the winder/motor drive; but this camera simply looked great all by itself; especially with with the 50mm/f1.4 Rokkor attached! So I thought I'd throw this thread out there to see what others' opinions are on the subject. Attachment Deleted

Doesn't get any prettier than the Nikon F4 with the MB20 grip,

For just plain beauty the Pentax LX puts any Minolta to shame.

I vote for the XE-1, XE-7 too. I also love the XD & XD11 Quick, close the voting so we win.

For just plain beauty the Pentax LX puts any Minolta to shame. If I hadn't of limited myself to one, the LX would probably have been 1A! To me, it was the only "Professional" SLR of the film generation that wasn't overly festooned with dials and buttons. It was one of the few that still looked great with the winder attached. Attachment DeletedI'm a little surprised that nobody has jumped out there with the Contax RTS though.

Funnily enough, the Contax would be top of my list, I think, along with the Leica R: the gold ones[/a], of course with the brown leather.
In general SLRs are pretty ugly beasts. There are very few cameras that class as being pretty - the Werra being one of the great exceptions. Of the photos so far shown I would go with the Pentax LX, though I think the Pentax ME (and other similar models) is good too.

The Contax was designed by Porsche, so it is expected to be a sexy beast. So was the original VW Beetle

Where are the Olympus guys? I think the OM-1 and OM-2 were beauties.

I had an LX It had a wonderful feel to it and was a true system camera with all sorts of accessories and lenses. Also had a Contax RTS which had an absolutely beautiful body. But I couldn't afford many of the lenses and never was comfortable with an all electronic camera with no backup shutter speeds (that was in the early days of electronic shutters).

Where are the Olympus guys? I think the OM-1 and OM-2 were beauties. They were designed to be as straight forward as possible, according to other makes enthusiasts, too small, too quiet, awkward to hold, too simple, and not macho enough!......possibly the best SLR ever? Stephen
