In my canon collection there was just this gap to be filled in the FL type lens cameras. For some time i didn't know of the existence of the canon FP until when surfing the net i came across a list of canon cameras and to my surprice one was listed that i didn't have. Having got all the others the pressure was on me to find that missing link to make my collection complete. It didn't came easy as some of you might know that the FP wasn't a common canon. One could go crazy and just buy wat's on offer at ebay dealers, but a 280$ price tag was a bit more than i was willing to spend on what afterall is a rather rare but not so special camera. Some 2 years went on and a week ago i saw an ad in the classifieds for some canon stuff among wich was a nice FP. The man selling the stuff was from the French speaking part of Belgium so after some lingual misunderstandings and a short but fierce bid-war i was able to buy the camera for what i thought was a fair price. Not coming from the US it saved me postal and customs costs (wich can add a substantial amount) and i recieved it today just 2 days after the end of the transaction. So here it is my new addition to my canon line up and the final missing link.

What a really nice find Belgium and with the external coupled meter as well. I have quite a large collection of Canon film cameras but the only ones I have from the old F series are the FT, FTb and FX. The FTb was my introduction to Canon manual focus film cameras.

Congratulations, what a nice find! I also like those old Canon manual cameras, they have soul, as they will continue to exist when all plastic cameras have deteriorated. Some claim Canon made this without light meter, as professionals thought only wimps would use one.

The for professionals who don't like metering bodys story is indeed the one i've heard to, isn't it great that every camera comes with a story and that we collectors are eager to hear these storys, like children who love to hear a nice fairy tale? @ Rachel, Rachel you must be the only female camera collector i've come across and i admire you for your knowledge ! upon till now i thought only men collected cameras and (preferably big lenses) as a Freudian compensation for their small "feet"

A lovely camera which I have never seen before - indeed never even heard of. I bought and sold many used Canons in the 70's working in a camera shop. I just looked it up in McKeowns and here is a photo without meter for the benefit of other members. You were lucky to get it with a meter. I expect it takes PX625 batterie(s) Attachment Deleted

For those of you who might be interested to see the rest of the canon FL mount cameras here's a pic of my now complete set : I don't use these cameras, if i use a canon then it will be a T90 or a new F1 (though this one very little as it has only shutter priority) Here's a pic i've made with the F1 and a 50mm 1:1,2 wide open:
