Hello to all members. I just won a Minolta SR 101 body only off the Bay for $18.10. From what I found out this is the Japanese version of the 201. I am still waiting on it but it's the 1975-77 model. Here in the United States I have seen more European/Asian 101B versions for sale. Does any one on here have the SR 101 model and are they rare in the states?
Thank you, Dennis

I have an SRT101, in my little Minolta family which has an XG1 added since this photo. A lovely no nonsense camera. More about the SRT family and confusing model numbering on the link at the end. The Rokkor Files... link

I cannot say I even noticed that there was an SR101 as all I have ever seen have been the SRT101 so I would like to think it would be rare. But then the US$ to Japanese Yen during that time was greatly in favor of the US$ and US service folks got heavily discounted camera gear from the base exchange so there is good possibility many were brought back statesidee.

philbirch: You got some nice Minoltas there. I like the XE-1 you have. That's the same as a Minolta XE-7 I believe. The XG-1 you don't have pictured got me hooked on Minolta's. My dad bought a XG-1 in the early 80s. I have never owned one though. I hope to add more Minoltas and other classic cameras in the future. My girlfriend says I have a camera collecting disorder. I tell her I have no problem collecting cameras(-:

The Minolta XE-7 has the smoothest full stroke film advance of any of my cameras! Minoltas generally have a very effortless stroke to begin with but the XE-7 is just sublime and has to be experienced IMO. Of course the downside of using the XE-7 is that it will make you wonder if your other cameras require service . . .

I bought the Minolta SR 101 off the bay from a camera store. The camera was labeled SR-1. But when I looked at the camera it self it said SR 101. Guess the camera shop was confused. I was confused the ,T, was missing. I had to look it up on the Rokkor Files. Found out it was the Japanese version of the 201.

I did read a story at Photo.net earlier trying to find info on the SR 101. A girls father had brought one over from Japan. IT was a very nice black version. Yep bet those are pretty common. LOL

Minolta's worldwide name game is very confusing. Canon appear to be doing the same with their DSLR range.
Alas my XE1 has a dark shadow in the viewfinder - possibly de-silvering or something in the pentaprism. It works fine though. I've had some great pics from it.

One of the other strange naming aspects of Minoltas is that the SR-2 was available before the SR-1. I have a number of the SR's and the SRT's, all of which are fine equipment. The same is true of the first class lenses. I think the best of the lot is the XD-11, and its slightly less full featured sibling, the XD-5. Lesdmess, your black XD-11 is a beauty.

If I can mention that I bought the Minolta SR 101 from Roberts off of EvilBay. I did find another SR 101 sold from Roberts, January 22 2015. It was labeled wrong also as a SRT 101. Sorry to hear about your viewfinder in the XE1. Glad it still works good for you. I like the look of all XE models. Maybe on day I'll buy one.

Dave: That is so true. Not much is in order when it comes to Minolta. The XE came before the XD then they went to the XG. Guess they didn't need a XF.

Lesdmess: I already have the SRT 101. You got the other models I like to get. Mainly the XE and XD models. I could be wrong but it seems the XE is between the SRT and XD.

Then, as far as Minolta naming models, you have the Japanese name, the European name and the US name. As I recall US XD-11's were XD-7's in Europe and XD's in Japan. Wasn't the XF one of the professional models? As I recall, Minolta produced two, substantially identical, but one had a motorized advance. I could be wrong on that. Dave

Dave I think you mean the X-1, XM & XK series instead of XF.
