A Handcross multifit hood and flter holder, and a similar Griffin Planiscope close up lens, both came from same Ebay seller. The Handcross universal hood and filter holder dates from the 1930/40 period, and the Planiscope from about 1910/30. The Planiscop contains a close up lens, and came with it's original celluloid box. To use you squeeze the levers or the knobs, and the jaws open over quite a range of sizes. Both expanding arms once had rubber sheaths on the bars, long rotted away. I will replace with electrical heat shrink sheathing. Stephen.

Some net references show the Griffin Planiscope to date from 1900, but was a push on version, and the sprung one comes from 1908 onwards.

This type of thing was still popular in the 50's as I see ads for them in my old literature. Looks like a great idea as there seemed to be no standardisation then.

I believe that the Handcross hood was later made by Nebro Products and Johnsons of Hendon. They used to turn up in the lucky dip box put out at sales time to clear old stock!
