Hi folks,
I'm Andy from Warwickshire in the UK, and am coming back to all things photography after many years out(except holiday snapping etc). I studied basic photography at art school back in the late '80s, but I had always drooled at the blingy Nikon, Minolta, Canon and Olympus SLR's in Beryl Houghtons camera shop in Coventry when I was a kid! My brother stood looking in the toy shop window, but I was always at the camera shop window.
Now, I am the proud owner of many useable and presentable SLR's from the 70's and 80's. I collect mainly Minolta SLR's, although I have various Canons, Pentax, Praktica and I have a nice example of the Olympus om1. I have numerous lenses to match the various bodies, and am collating a library of the various period manuals and literature of the cameras in my collection.
Certainly no expert, I am very much learning all about Photography, camera production by my favourite manufacturers, the various models and rarities, and even producing a half decent photo!
Anyway, I hope to learn a great deal from this forum.
Many thanks,
Andy.

I am another one that looked at the camera shop windows! Welcome to the C.C., Andy As a kid I, too, was hooked on cameras. We were always welcomed into the stores where we rifled through the ever present junk box. We invariably purchased something for 25ยข but rarely exceeding $1. I still have some of those junk box treasures some of which are still in use. Mickey (From Toronto)

Welcome, Andy. You sound like the perfect new member. We are all looking forward to hearing about your collection, and seeing those cameras, too.
Ciao from Italy.

Welcome, Andy! Your story sounds familiar, as a kid I always stood for the East West Agencies shop looking at those Zenits, Kievs and so on; later I learned there were more camera manufacturers than Russian:-) Hans

Hi Andy, sounds like you have a nice collection. I too have a small collection of Minoltas and their lenses. Plus a similar collection of Canons. My main area is 1950's cameras, which I used to look at in the used windows of the many camera shops in Manchester.

Ah...camera shop windows, London Camera exchange in Bond street, or Cannon St station....think about what was there and you would like to find these days!! The first was in Barry in wales, they stocked Coronet, Kershaw and Ensign, and a lone Leica...........as a kid, the holiday money went on a Coronet... welcome, Stephen.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I suppose you collect what you had fondest memories of. I always promised myself one of those Minoltas, well it's taken thirty years and now I've got ten! Plus a couple needing surgery, that'll be interesting when I get the bottle to open them up lol! I'm sure I'll be screaming for help at some stage, and its really great to have found a forum full of people with the know how.

Welcome Andy and let's see some of those Minoltas, Canons, Pentax, Praktica and Olympus om1 as well as results from them! Bare with me, I'll get a few pics of my collection done, then I'll work out how to get them on here. Not good at the uploading of pics on these proboard type forums(I'm a bit stuck in the '80s, and not just with cameras lol!).

Andy, I think you need an 'enter' between each 'jpg' and 'http,' in your links

Do as I suggested in my post about adding images... click on second box down 'direct' copy the link then in the forum cluck on image icon (7th from right) and paste it into the top half of the dialog box that comes up. Thats what I did with this image. Don't use 'quick reply' there is no option to add image. Good luck. Nice collection by the way. Some of my dream cameras of the 70's!!
