Hi to you all out there. I would not exactly describe myself as a Camera Collector by definition but more as a photographic enthusiast the has an appetite for some of the older film cameras and a few of the modern digital cameras that are now well and truly entrenched in the hobby/interest. My very first camera way back in the distant past was a Yashica J (bought new), then a Yashica J5 (bought new) and moved on to a Canon FTb with a 1.4 (bought new) and then explored Minolta via a Minolta X- 300 with all of the kit of the day. That was the bargain of the year having been bid on and secured at a Business Liquidation Sale in Warrington,Cheshire,England.
Then in 1988 I discovered and bought new - the wonderful Yashica 230AF with the Trap Focus as one of the focusing options along with the 9 exposure modes - it quickly became apparent that it was a true revelation with a 35-70 macro and a AF 70-210 along with many other compatible lenses to explore.
I still have the kit and have recently added an absolutely mint body and a 75-300 macro (bought separately) from a dealer in Pudsey,West Yorkshire. Yes,I have digital and all of which are Fuji FinePix. They are a FinePix S5700,an S4200 and an S8000.
I have also recently added two Pentax F80's (nice but complex) and a Minolta Dynax 505si,a Minolta a Sweet ( the Asian market version the Dynax 505si Super) and a Minolta Dynax 505si Super ( a truly light and easy feel to them) and a trio of Pentax MZ-7',one of which is afflicted with the Plastic Internals Scourge. Next stop - the trash can.
I really do not know what all of the noise about Pentax was in the past and especially around the time that I bought my Yashica 230 AF.

Hi and welcome to the forum. We're on first name terms here. Interesting story about your cameras. Not sure what you mean when you say "I really do not know what all of the noise about Pentax was in the past..." I'm not familiar with the J5, or indeed most of the Yashicas. They had a pretty rubbish importer and the shops I worked at didn't push them as they could. I have an FTb with 1.4, bought within the last year or so. It is a wonderful camera. I have a small collection of FD mount Canons. Why not post some photos of your little collection for us to see check this out if you are having difficulty... how to post photosPhil of Cheshire

Hi Phil & you all. Indeed I was mistaken, nearly 70 and suffering with period addling of the Grey Cells. My first camera was a pre-owned Yashica Minister, then a new Yashica J - both were range-finder. I then moved on to the J5 which was my first SLR but not TTL it had a CdS Cell system and the lenses were screw mounted.
I then moved over to Minolta along with my THEN - first encounter with Canon, Yes it was an FTb 1.4 and served me for several years and was permanently loaded with Colour Reversal,my preference at that time was Agfa and would swap between Agfa & FujiFilm. The Minota X-300 was nearly always loaded with Ilford 125 B&W
I then,in 1988 bought my Yashica 230AF,a truly wonderful camera and equipped with a 35-70 macro & a 70-210 I explored the multiple exposure modes along with the many focus modes. The one that did it for me after a demo was the Trap Focus,it was a revelation, others explored it but The Yashica 230AF really had it Spot-on. I have since added another absolutely mint ( long story, linked to Grey Cells) Yashica 230AF body and a 75-300 macro, both bought separately from E'bay seller/dealer ID :- tpolony - he is in Pudsey,West Yorkshire.
I have since added a pair of Nikon F80's,one with the Nikkor 28-80 and the other with a Cosina manual zoom 100-300 macro.
I really do like the Nikon F80,light and feels good in the hands - but complex is a bit polite. I thought that the Yashica 230 AF was a lot to get my head around. Perhaps the nearly 70yr old Grey Cells are under attack from what several years ago was easy peasy. I will post some images in due-course.
Regards,
John.
