A nice little item from ebay, an Ensign brand multi fit filter holder and two filters, one a graduated yellow to clear, and a light green. Most likely pre-war items, going by the box type style. Unfortunately the leather case mentioned on the box is not there. The levers open the sprung jaws to fit around the rim of the lens, up to about 30 mm. Lots of filters were sold as glass only to mount in this type of holder. Stephen

Lovely item. I have a couple of holders like that made in the 50's.

I think the leather wallet is solved, there was another filter with a leather case on ebay, and also another filter by Ensign, a yellow " Isochromatic Screen", I presume it is a normal yellow filter. It has got it's original plush box. Isochromatic film was made to be in between Ortho ans Pancromatic film in colour sensitivity. It was more sensitive to red, but could be handled under red light in the darkroom. The correction factors for each coloured filter were a bit different with Isochromatic film. Houghton Butcher marketed Isochromatic film, but it had gone by the WW2 period. Stephen.

They don't supply filters in boxes like this these days! the filter is brass rimmed, and may be pre 1st W War, or at latest the mid 1920's, when most Ensign filters were in printed cardboard boxes. The box is original as it is embossed with the details of the contents. Padded box and cover, with decorated brass hinges and clasp. Filter is pale straw yellow, and about .5 stop loss, and is in perfect condition. Fits 40 mm push on, the inside rim is leather lined to aid grip. Stephen.

And another Ensign Ischromatic Screen No2 B, in a different original plush round box, pill box style. The first is a type A, and this one a type B. Brass mount with leather interior. Stephen.

Another Ensign filter, a Sprung mount filter holder, complete with red and green glass filters. These sprung mounts work perfectly with the standad Leica lenses and Russian clones. Complete with box, it appears to be of post war production. Stephen.
