I have just been trying out my £27 pair of 1990s Pentax 35-80 and 80-200 KA lenses on my Pentax K10D bought for manual lenses , which had been semi retired as I had moved to Sony to use my Minolta AF lenses .
However , manual exposure is now restricted to the Leica M8 and the Leica Digilux 3 with jammed Minolta MD mount . Even the Digilux 3 and Panasonic L1 were bought for their analogue interface . I had moved across to Sony to use my Minolta AF lenses with a similar nod to the past so would not dream of extending two systems .
The Pentax lenses are perfectly adequate in sharpness and contrast when stopped down to my favourite f8 @ 125th of so . Probably better than any inexpensive compact and far more flexible. i love the 35-80 on the Pentax and the gunmetal finish is far more elegant than the silver of the Minolta version !!
It has altered my perception about how much it could cost to have a used DSLR body - Pentax / Canon / Nikon which can utilise these inexpensive lenses readily available on e-bay . OK, it will be restricted to a nominal 50mm as a wide angle is too expensive , but a 28-70 is available offering a 45mm nominal .
Body @ £150 ? plus a pair of lenses @ £30 ? = great fun !!
