With the demise of my Panasonic G1 with it's useful articulated screen , I have almost given up on manual lenses - although my Leica Digilux 3 is permanently adapted to MD and the Pentax K10d is fitted with a manual 50mm.
Not to forget the Leica M8 with it's selection of 35/50mm lenses .
So , AF is my future of more casual snapshooting .
I could not resist a Sony A390 which unlike my A290 has live view and that much missed TILTING SCREEN , for £102 from e-bay with standard 18-70 and Tamron 80-200 .
With Sony abandoning all MinoltaAF mount cameras and the A390 being no more then 3 years old , it was an ideal opportunity to keep my system going for a while.
It made me wonder how inexpensive it could be to acquire and older DSLR with some ex-35mm lenses , which may not be the 'best ' but offer many contented hours of snapshooting or more .

Dee, sorry to hear that your Panasonic G1 has packed up. That articulated viewing screen can hardly be bettered. I still use mine quite often.

I picked up my Pentax K10d for a tad over a £100 it is K mount and uses M42 with adapters. You can pick up a Nikon D40 for under £100. Both are excellent cameras and do an amazing job. I have had the Nikon and have a Pentax so I kow what they're capable of.

I once had a pentax K10D it's a great camera to use K-mount legacy glass on. I didn't keep it because i didn't have enough K- glass to justify keeping it. The lower end nikon DSLR's can be used to mount F-mount glass but they won't be as verstatile as the K10D. For good use of nikon legacy glass you would need a D300 or so because these types can use all functions ( exept AF) with older glass, sadly these types won't fall in the 100€ bracket. Anyway imho ANY DSLR is preferable over any other type of camera for a lot of reasons ( responce, battery life, AF speed etc..). My experience with mirrorlress led me to sell my pentax Q, the samsung NX will go to very soon i'm, only planning to keep the olympus Epl for use with legacy glass such as F- FD- leica - M42 and c- mounts. Hell i might even consider buying a K10D back again if the prices keep falling like they do. Shot with the 10D and a takumar 28 2.8

Thanks everyone - I still use a manual 50mm f1.7 on the K10D and would not part with it for the world . My £150 Samsung NX 1000 was bought when I still had some employment , predominantly for the free 24mm f2.8 included - just for very occasional use plus it is a useful handbag camera . It does not provide much dee'light in snapshooting though - it seems sterile somehow . Buying a 16mm for Sony would be the same price would be less sensible as i seldom use this focal length. dee

The Sony A390 has arrived with a couple of nondescript lenses .[ Early Sony 18-70 and Tamron 100-300 ] It's in great condition and i think that the articulated screen and live view will be useful.
These cameras , made for one year - 2010-2011 had a 14 meg sensor , 2 years out of date when issued , were stripped to the very essentials and are not a patch on contemporary Canon/Nikon .
However , I genuinely like using them and love the simplicity - a Minolta 35-70 F4 lens is a perfect balance for the A390 .
