Not Ebay, but at my local car boot sale a Meike MK910 Speedlight to fit Nikon DSLRs in box with case and instructions apparently unused. £5. Got it home and inserted 4 AA batteries, seems to be perfect. (When I have worked out the LCD screen controls I will test it on camera!)

Good call, they're about £70 new.
In a similar vein, I bought a ring flash with adaptors for 46mm to 87mm filter thread plus diffusors and colour filters for a tenner. Its LED and works as flash or constant. The constant is perfect for close video. New, they're about £55.

That worked well. I have just sold my expensive Nikon Speedlight on ebay and kept the Meike which is more powerful and more controllable. Apart from that, the best flashgun I have ever owned (for older film cameras) is a Sunpak Auto 33 always reliable and easy to use.

I have one of those sunpaks too. A great model. My fave is Vivitar 283 which I use lots, I also have a Sunpak 28SR a nice little bounce model - very low profile.
