I just bought a new Nokia smart phone... should have paid extra and got the smart operator my old phone ceased working and I foolishly thought 'buy a phone.. plug in SIM card' and all my information will be there, NOT SO it seems my phone numbers etc were stored in my phone and not on SIM Im in a remote area so took me couple of days to get to telco's store to enquire... the phone had already accessed and downloaded info from internet (which is totally unwanted) and used up over $50 call credits leaving me with the need to recharge before I had even made my first call. Nokia need shooting.. how can they sell a phone which comes with absolutely no instructions which starts to spend your money for you from the time its turned on Is it just that I'm old fashioned and lost the plot? It makes me furious when I get RIPPED OFF

It's the store that's responsible, by default the internet is not accessible on a smartphone, you have to confirm the connection, same with wi-fi connections. So the shop sold it in the wrong state, or accidentally thought you had requested it. In the UK I am pretty sure in the circumstances, the shop would credit or refund the money, as long as no request to connect was given. If the older phone also had internet, same provider, and was active when you changed to the new phone, then the shop would have left it active, and not really their fault. Nokia do prove downloadable instructions on the net, but phone instructions generally leave a lot to be desired.....a 10 year old has more information on how it works!

Its a bad sign when the kids are smarter then us... or at least me I have noticed of late that my 'use by' date has well expired My grandson (9) has his own phone and does his homework on an iPad...no books. He also watches his cartoons and plays games on them, downloads Netflix movies (that his father has to approve). Far cry from my bat and taped-up baseball in the street, and a knapsack full of schoolbooks.
