My son, down in Tucson, (where from Sedona) who we visited and the grand kids this last week, knows I'm into old film cameras... so somewhere he had picked up and old Yashia YK.. it had been dropped and shows a dent on the lens, where the filters would screw in, and on the side, where the film advance lever is, near the top. Its very dirty, shutter won't work.. ect.. so having never gotten very deep into guts of my other cameras.. figured this was an ample opportunity to dig in, learn how to do a CLA of the shutter ect, and learn something about repair.
So in searching the web came across, John Farrells post.. from 2011.. about his Yashica YK, thank you John.. it was very helpful. So being a newbie, in repair, will have some questions fer ya all.

Peter - thank you for the kind words. When you dismantle the camera, take lots of pictures, and make notes of what you do. Store each subassembly together, away from other parts - I use a lidded plastic box with compartments inside, like a "tackle box", for this.

Sedona - you luck man ... it's such a beautiful place (I visited about 15 years ago). Sadly here in the North East of England it's too dark to take photos until about April !!! Best of luck with the camera repair.

Haha. No Mickey - it hasn't caught on here yet. We've only just learned how to make fire.

Fire is one of the four elements from which everything in the world is made. And the world is flat and Mickey - living at about 47 degrees North - is very near the edge. Not quite Christmas Day here yet - about 37 minutes to go - not that I'm counting or anything.

" And the world is flat and Mickey - living at about 47 degrees North - is very near the edge. "
I have often wondered about that, johnbear. Toronto is at 43 degrees 42 minutes North latitude. The parallels of latitude only go to 90 degrees N. Then? Nothing! Not a thing. Nada. Rien. Nil. Zip. Zero. ? Could that be where the edge of this flat world is situated? Mickey Why doesn't the ocean flow off the edge?

Why doesn't the ocean flow off the edge?
Well, there's a giant turtle who stops it.
Apologies to peterpumkineater for highjacking your thread with all this advanced science talk.
