Has anybody else found problems with ebays feedback system, I thought the idea was you could warn others of bad buyers or sellers... I recently had a bad experience with a seller (too long to go into whole story) but I ended up unhappy so left them bad feedback... not abusive.. not threatening.. just the truth in a few words... This person was a BIG seller on ebay and my feedback was removed... only explanation .. ebay had gathered evidence that it warranted removal no details whatever, what evidence there was only what was written which was in offensive.. no swearing .. nothing

Bob, it's sad but it's the way of the world I suppose that you are lucky that they didn't close your account.

I didn't know that could happen??? But, sadly everything always comes down to money. Not saying that's the way it should be, but that's how it is. Ebay only care about turning a maximum profit.

Bob,
I started with eBay about 15 years ago. I have made hundreds of purchases mostly cameras. I have had four or five unpleasant incidents. That is a better average than most retail stores have.
I no longer post feedback as I did not find it satisfactory. Negative feedback only results in the vendors' vindictive response. One must carefully peruse the pictures and the verbal description. Beware of missing or unclear parts and ambiguous statements. I find questioning the vendor directly is the best protection. Ask for more pictures and clarified descriptions. If they balk it is time to say goodbye. If my purchase is expensive I will check their feedback.
I have never sold anything on eBay.

I started with eBay in 2004. Mostly the experience has been good although I've never sold anything on eBay. With those purchases which were not so good I just don't leave any feedback. I am always afraid that should I leave bad feedback I'll simply get the same in return.

Feedback not only on ebay but on any site is allways a problem, the few times i had to give a negative feedback because the seller really didn't deliver what was promised or described, resulted in me getting a negative feedback as well.
But sometimes even if you know you'll get your negative comment back in your face i think it is somewhat cowardish not to warn others for what is wrong with some sellers.
If you see a seller with 1000+ positive feedback and one or two negatives that's quite OK as obviously you can't please everyone and some buyers...really are difficult or are unable to read properly.
Whenever i deal with sellers with relatively high bad feedback i allways try to check what the complaint was about and how the seller reacted to the bad feedback, if he in return gives a negative feedback and a rude comment i won't buy from him.
A general rule in buisness (so i learned long ago) is to stay polight and whitin reason even if the customer is complaining ore even rude. Also some sellers state clearly " don't give negative feedback, contact us and we are sure we can solve any problem" i once had a problem with a Chinese seller, got immediate responce to my complaint and the matter was solved with just 3 mails to both our satisfaction, with no need for negative feedback, this policy showed in a 99,9% positive feedback from more than 3000 transactions for this seller.

I've been using Ebay since 1997. Getting close to 2000 transactions, and I've only had one problem, but Ebay took care of it during a phone conversation with a representative.

On the whole, Ebay is actually pretty fantastic. However, just like day-to-day life, every now an again you encounter folk with questionable morals, or the nasty streak that often accompanies the anonymity of the Internet. Our experiences shape our Ebay habits, and I have developed a whole load of triggers that stop me bidding on certain seller's items.
As others have commented, if I'm not entirely happy with a purchase, I tend to leave no feedback, and only go for the negative if I'm seriously hacked-off. We are clearly a bunch of like-minded, nice people!
In defense of Ebay, I have to say that their dispute resolution process has improved, and the last couple of times I've had a problem, Ebay have got my money back quickly and with very little hassle.
I've bought a number of cameras from Germany, and my experience has been that the German sellers are far more clued-up, honest and reliable than the average Brit.

Ah Mickey ... I do actually trade services whenever I can. I once taught a lad to play the guitar (over many years) in return for his mechanic father servicing and maintaining my car. Only just recently I've traded my restoration of a table and four chairs in return for the use of a workshop to do some other cabinet making jobs. Sadly, I don't (personally) know another sole who is into old cameras, which is why I hang about here. If I lived anywhere near Toronto, I'd be happy to come and build you something in return for a "Blad" (and I'd let you cook me lunch too).

I am devotedly lower class. As for me cooking. You would be taking your life in your hands. But you would always be welcome to Toronto. We have over 7,000 restaurants. "Sadly, I don't (personally) know another sole who is into old cameras,..."You are now a member of a grand group of camera soulmates. Mickey

I'll ask Mrs Bear to prepare a packed lunch. I'd like a Blad, but only in the same way I'd like a Rolls Royce. I'd never actually use either ... I'd just polish them.

I have had one or two problems with ebay - sellers mostly, but one recent buyer really messed me around over the sale of a used £12 digital camera, she paid for it then said that she didn't want it, I then told her quite politely that she was obliged to buy it etc. Eventually she left me such abusive and untrue feedback that I applied to ebay to remove it. They emailed me a legal form which I had to sign and scan and send it back to them, I think that I had to say that the feedback was a libel. They removed it instantly. The worst problem that I had was over a £2 purchase of an exposure meter that supposedly was 'in excellent condition', I kept it to save postage, and I contacted the seller first, then left straightforward negative feedback. The threats to my health and family's health were so worded that I had to involve the police. Of course they could do nothing!
