Don't ever take the centre screw out of the winder of a Paxette. If you do, here's how to put it back together. The old Classic Camera Repair forum (archived at Rangefinderforum) has a useful post, and a photograph of how it should look: www.rangefinderforum.com/classics/forum/messages/15681/13514.html?1224798668I wound the return spring into the top part of the wind lever. I then fitted the pawl, spring, and ratchet. I used grease to hold them in place. The spring return plate hooks onto the loop at the end of the spring. Make sure the projecting lug on the plate is inside the wind handle. The bottom part of the wind lever is then maneouvered through the ratchet, and the screw fitted. Ready to fit to the camera - the end of the spring return plate has to be pulled clockwise from its position in the picture below, so it can engage the slot on the camera top plate.

I learnt this the hard way, it is a right b****r the first attempts. There are lots of Paxettes out there with broken wind on's, due to the temptation to remove the top screw! Stephen

Bob - I wear a very strong pair of hobby glasses, when I'm working on cameras. Sixteen years ago, when I started this hobby, I didn't need glasses at all.....

It is rather like the old comedy standby, the character sitting next to the big red button that says on it...Do Not Press.....you know they are going too. I think it was in Douglas Adams Hitch-hiker series that there was a big red button that said do not press on it, and when Arthur Dent pressed it the button got very stroppy with him......

Stephen - this one was undone by accident. I had two similar Paxettes, one with a bad winder. I picked up what I thought was that one, undid the screw, and found I had dismantled the good one!
I have almost all the winder parts to repair the faulty one, except for the pawl spring. I need to look in my spring collection, and see if there is one there which would do the job.
