Question for Exakta guys, what tele lenses are recommended or classics according to your experience? I am more of an amateur photographer than a collector, so I am not interested in rare lenses but on those relatively common with good quality optics.
So far only got an 85mm of modest aperture. Maybe next one should be a 135 or 200 or something on that range.
If you had to choose just one telephoto lens in the range 135 to 200, what would it be?
My price range - probably around 100 USD max, considering our Customs limitations.
Many thanks for any comment!

Best is to get Carl Zeiss lenses. For 135mm, get a Sonnar 4/135 or 3,5/135 (newer, but not necessarily better...) Bit cheaper, but a rather basic 3 lens design, get a Triotar 4/135, preferably late 3,000,000 to early 4 mio number as they have a nice bokeh.
For wide angle, get a Flektogon 2,8/35 (same number range as the Triotar: many blades=nice bokeh). Stay away from 4/20, 4/25 or 2,8/20 unless you can afford it...
Also nice, but a bit harder to get is the Biometar 2,8/120 (originally a Pentacon Six mount lens, but some also converted to Exakta mount.
Meyer Görlitz had some good lenses too, I'm not familiar with those. Due to the popularity of the Exakta lots of other brand lenses from that timeframe are available, but I prefer Carl Zeiss:-)

Carl Zeiss would be all right for me, Hans - thanks for the info on the serial numbers.

Hans, I followed your advice and got a Flektogon and Sonnar - both with some easily fixed "defekt".
After receiving, fixing and testing these lenses I hope to post again.

Beautiful set.
I have one of those "T" on the left side. Excellent, sharp Tessar even if they could not use the name. Flektogon and Sonnar on the right?
The body on the right looks like a VX IIa, or b? (excuses, I am not an expert).

On the left body a 2/50 Pancolar is attached; 3 rightmost lenses are 2,8/80 Biometar, 2,8/35 Flektogon, and 4/135 Sonnar; mostly export versions. The Varex is a IIb. (According to Matanle the IIb is the best of the lot...). Hans

Good to learn that! My two Exakta bodies are IIb models.

Flektogon 35 and Sonnar 135 arrived in acceptable shape and record time (from Germany). Will test them during the weekend, weather permitting. Results, if any, to follow soon.
