Over the years of teaching photography and seeing what people turn out with different cameras, I am a firm believer that a camera will not make a photographer. A good photographer can take great pictures with a piece of junk, while taking the finest and most expensive equipment in front of some they will still take lousey pictures.
I personally think that knowing your equipment and its limitations along with the (for the loss of a better word) "esthetic eye" far outweighs all. I take good photos, but can not sing even with a bucket to carry the tune. We all end up with different talents and sure great equipment can enhance them but will never make a photographer out of a violinist any more that a great violin will make a virtuoso out of a mechanic.
Just my 2 cents KennB

This is the earliest of my Pentax (a Honeywell) with a 300 mm Vivitar lens that I am currently shooting with. Last week I used the Canon EOS with 100mm-300mm and will compare the photos. It is tripod mounted, I tryed to hold it to shoot without the tripod,,,,ya,,,right, thing weighs a ton. BTW it is old m42 mount that I got on an old Yashica I picked up years ago, this is the first time out for shooting with it. I do have one question on it if anyone knows. One the last ring closest to the body is a slide button of some sort labeled O and L. You can see it in the picture. On the other side of the same ring is a thumb screw labeled M. This is a straight 300mm lens. KennB

My first car that I actually drove on the road was a 58 plymouth wagon. I had it 2 months,(one motor and one tranny later) My mom got tired of that and took me down and got me a 64 Mustang off the showroom floor. It was the second one in town. the first was a convertable ,same color that the dealers daughter got. Wish I had that one back. KennB

It is indeed a Chevy II. Had big slicks on the back and a wing. One serious gas guzzler . And yes, that is a self portrait ;D (Really just the school mascot running around.) KennB

Have you tried the historical society, local and state. They may have something but ask if they charge. Some states will let you use them for free while others charge a nominal fee. In any case they will want to claim copyright to them and it would have to be noted. I have been working on a train book and wanted to use some historical photos and run into this. I did find out how many photos might be out there tho, and did find a few on line.
This brings up an intersting point. Materials that have expired copyrights that are in the states hands now become property of the state (or feds) and they pounce on the copyright. Some individual that has the photos can do this but through an exhaustive process. When do photos enter public domain, like written material?

I have this 3M MP8640 that I would like to trade for early Canon or Pentax equipment or digital bodys(first generation). If anyone is interested let me know. I will not be posting on the well known auction site. I prefer trade as to selling. This is a very nice piece of equipment but I do not need it. Here are some quick pictures to look at. If you want more let me know. It comes with a power cord and the 3 line connection cord only and no box. KennB

I picked these up at Goodwill for $3.00 each. The need to have the batteries charged yet, so I am not sure if they work. I have gotten a lot of cameras there for as little as 50 sents, including the Sony cybershot dcs-s75 that works great, for 99 cents. taken with Nikon KennB

I went to a garage sale along the road to relatives and found this nice Canon. It came with the EOS bag and cleaning kit unused. I ended up paying $25.00 for the setup. Everything works great and shot a roll last night but have to take it in to get processed yet. This is my first Canon SLR and am very impressed with the feel and action of it. With the 100-300mm lens is it heavy and gives it a very serious feel to it, unlike some of the other SLR's I have. KennB
