I admit it, I sold most of my collection to a local dealer! I am still looking out for exceptional buys, but I just might not purchase them! I still have a small collection, so I class myself as a collector.
The reason I sold is solely because of advancing years. If anything happened suddenly to me, disposal would have been a problem. I have still kept some of the 'essentials' Leica 111f because it is something I lusted after for 60+ years , could never afford a M3, Olympus OM-1 because it is beautiful, Nikon FM2 because I use it. Rollop Richard Reflex because it has my name on it, Voigtlander Bessamatic because it is a real classic & produces excellent images reliably, Pentax S1a because it is such a complete classic. Voigtlander Vito B (small viewfinder) because it was where I started in 35mm about 64 years ago (not the same one, but identical.) And a Minolta 110 reflex, mark 2 because..........
I also kept a small collection of 1990's plastic bridge 35mm cameras, Chinon Genesis 3 Ricoh Mirai etc. as they are examples of 'design' good & eccentric.
Sorry, eBay, you could have made it easier............No more money from me.

I bought another good, working, Yashica FR 1 a few days ago with a 50mm f2 ML. Nice solid cameras. Apparently ML stands for the multi-layer coating on the glass and might be a slightly superior lens, DSB was a single layer. There are so many Yashica FX-D etc on ebay for sale that one of the things that I look for is the ML on the lens.

One of my first buys when I started collecting was a Yashica FR1 . It was said to be in good condition - it was (mint). What I had not looked at was the lens it was the f 1.4.Nice camera. Stupidly I sold it to fund something else. The Yashica ML lenses are supposed to be better quality than the DSB versions. I now look for those.

I know that about 90% of my cameras work mechanically and they all look quite good cosmetically. Checking through the ones with batteries is carried out roughly (gently) 3 times a year. Some cameras have their batteries in, others not. Some have dead meters. As long as the camera and lens look bright & clean, the shutter and mirror work (SLR) I am fairly happy. (Or, the camera is so odd or rare that it is worth keeping!) I must say I was very pleased to get a really mint Miranda Sensomat RS recently as it has no meter at all and no battery to corrode.. I think that my interest is going towards earlier cameras that do not rely on batteries. (Or the exposure system bolts on!)

Thaks for that. The first that I had heard of the Singlex was in about 1964 when I entered a large photo competition for 35mm slides run by a camera shop in Hampshire, England. I went to the final in a church hall and came second out of 85 finalists with the picture of a lily. The winner won a Singlex and I really wanted that camera as it was well out of my financial area at that time. The prizes were presented by Jonathan Routh of the TV show 'Candid camera. I won an Ilford Sportsmaster (the camera with four focus buttons on the front) which I immediately sold to my uncle! The TLS is a slightly later version.

Just purchased a Ricoh Singlex TLS in average condition. Not very exciting? But it has a Rikenon 55mm f 1.4 lens. The radioactive one with great reports on the image sharpness.
Also a Soligor 90-230 zoom which apparently is very common. Will keep the readers informed when it arrives! About 6 years ago one of my first film cameras when I started my current collection was the Sigma Mark One SLR which was a Singlex in new clothes. That really started me off & I then went on to Yashica, Konica, then Pentax & Nikon with others, now heavily into first generation Miranda (11 of) the latest a black EE-2 with an f 1.4 lens.

Jut purchased, a Miranda EE-2 black body, f1.4 50mm lens, a f2.8 Miranda 135 mm and a 35 mm ? Miranda lens, camera instruction book, Yashica Exposure meter & Sunpak flashgun, hope it is all as good as it looks! Edit. The camera looks good and everything works except the exposure meter. All the lenses are clean, but the iris is not working on the 135 mm.Even the tiny Yashica exposure meter works and the very scruffy flashgun has life in it.

Rachel, the book Corfield Cameras A History & Collectors' guide by John E Lewis is very well written and comprehensive. A bargain from Amazoon, it is sent direct from the author.

I remembered the Corfield Periflex from the early 60's. The history always interested me. I had seen a lot on eBay at very high prices which I am not prepared to pay. I was looking out for one at charity shops or car boot sales but have never seen one in any condition. This one can be displayed as it is, amazing buy at £60. I had never held one before this arrived. I think that it really is worth getting repaired. Edit. The camera has now gone off to a local repairer for an estimate. June 4th 2021. Periflex now professionally repaired. Shutter, periscope now works, interior cleaned, pressure plate foam replaced, viewfinder and periscope cleaned. Lens focus now free & smooth, just like new. £90 including postage.

Just arrived a very clean Corfield Periflex 2 with a Lumax 45mm f 3.5 lens. The shutter does not work, but apart fom that it looks to be 12 months old, not 60 years. Now looking for a competent repairer to sort the shutter out.

I have been using a Meike 6.5 mm for a couple of years now. I started with it on a Sony a6000 at first and now I have gone to Sony full frame there is a lot of black border but the actual image is very acceptable. For the right subject I think that fisheye can be appropriate and not a gimmick. I now use it on a very cheap Sony NEX body which makes more sense than using it on & off my a7. There is a 'photographer stance' to be utilised with these lenses, lean forward and keep your feet out of frame!

Arrived today a Miranda GT serial 869266 with a Miranda 50mm f1.9 lens. This is a 'G' model with the cds meter built in to the finder. Very clean but the meter does not work. Two small chips in the pentaprism so somebody may have tried to dismantle it. The battery compartment on the Miranda models that have meters has a very fine gauge thread and is likely to seize, a good reason to check on any such camera and remove the battery if not in use, do not over tighten the cap.
Somebody had put the lens on incorrectly. I am investigating if any damage resulted.

I found another Sensorex with a Japa script on the internet on ' The Carrot Room' the serial on that one is 757651. This photo is mine. The battery compartment was very corroded and the cap was very difficult to remove.
