That's a very nice one. I'd love to have one at some point in the future. Congrats on the find.

Other than having 4 Tamron Adaptall lenses, I think I can officially characterize myself as a "collector" since I now have 4 different types of mounts! Nikon, Minolta, Contax C/Y, and Konica. I'm certain that I'll add others along the way, but it seems to be a bit of a weird thing!
Has anyone else here collected interchangeable mount lenses and their mounts?

The box from KEH was on the porch last night when I got home. In it were 2 Tamron Adaptall mounts; one a Minolta MD (which is threatening to consume my collecting energies), and the other was a Contax C/Y. Since the XE-7 has yet to arrive, I opened the C/Y mount first and put in on the Tamron Adaptall II 28-50mm. Wow! Does that Contax feel great in the hands!
I have the winder on there and for someone used to carrying a Nikon D300 with the MD10 attached, it felt almost perfect. I can't wait for the weekend so I can take it, the 28-50 and 75-150 out to shoot a roll or 2 of film. I ran it without film for a while just to hear the sound of a real camera. My 8 year old daughter who had never hear the sound of a motorized film SLR was immediately intrigued! She might have to come with Daddy tomorrow.

I just landed a "mate" for the 50mm/f1.4 on eBay. An XE-7 that looks to be in decent cosmetic shape and supposedly working! I'm just a little bit excited right now!

@ Stan, the G that's another story, i made a bid on two G's on a Dutch website and was happy that the vendor accepted my bid. However when i gave him the adress to wich to send the cameras he replied that he refuses to sell outside of the Netherlands and that was the end of the story.... so the hunt for a (preferably black) G goes on ! I don't want to dream about the very early mirandas as the prices for those are out of my league i know of a mint condition orion but 3700$ is a bit to much :-( The pursuit of a "Black" G would push me over the edge! Although I think that the early-ish Mirandas had very nice chrome, I once saw a black G and was instantly smitten! I hadn't fallen for a camera that hard since the first catching a glimpse of an XE-7. Miranda is one of those companies that have products that either look fantastic or pretty homely. Sorry to hear about your experience with the Dutch auction; I would have been extremely frustrated with that situation! I will keep an eye out for when you do snag your pair.

I can live with the XEs, maybe a stray SRT or two, but if it starts heading toward XK territory, I'm going to be in BIG trouble!

You are absolutely right. I'm just hoping that I can get this new infection stopped at "one or two others"!

Yes it was with the TM meaning Thread Mount. Miranda had models with their own branding that had used that designation as well.

I went down to the Dallas area's bi-monthly computer flea market Saturday just to see if there was anything interesting. Although I did come across a tiny 2003 Sony laptop computer for $10 (PCG-N505VX), it was the photographic find that I'm the happiest about! At one of the several "junk" dealers tables, I ran across several photographic items, including a Minolta X-370. That was mildly interesting, as was the Asahi Pentax Takumar 135mm. Then I saw what I thought was an always common, Rokkor 50mm/f1.7, or maybe 2.0, but NO; it turned out to be an MC 50mm/f1.4! The guy wanted $10 for it. I was able to calm myself down long enough to find it's backcap, a ThinkPad power adapter that was worth the $15 that I paid for both. Now, I'm going to have (kicking and screaming) be forced to buy a suitable Minolta camera to mount it on. But of course, that is obviously going to be an XE-7...... woe is me..... whatever am I going to do about this terrible state of affairs!!!

The XE-7 is, "bar none", my favorite "classic" film camera. I'm a little mystified as to why so little has been written about it. I don't think there is a camera that is quite as beautiful either!

When putting away some cameras in boxes in order to get them out of the way for the house rebuild, i stumbled across a few mirandas. I never gave them much attention, but on inspecting them i noticed just how fine these cameras are. So i had to have some more... this is what a few days of internet and local stores got me : I've got to figure out how to loose my camera aquiring addiction because things are getting out of hand and some how i'll need some spare change left for my two months trip to New Zeeland. Unfortunately, I'm of no help as I have a soft spot for Mirandas as well. Although, I've never gotten around the acquiring my 2 favorites which are the "G", and the RE-II, hope springs eternal. Maybe someday!

About 6-8 months ago, I "retrograded" for pretty much the same reason. I had settled on a Panasonic GF-1 as a compact system camera for when I didn't want to carry my Nikon D300. After using it for several months, I was disappointed in that I only felt comfortable using it when I had the EVF on the camera, in which case it was functionally not much more compact than the D50 I had at the time. Maybe I'd have felt differently had I of had the Panasonic pancake lens with it, but all that is water under the bridge.
Ultimately, I sold it, and the D50 as well and bought a D40 for what the D50 sold for, then added some very compact manual focus lenses to go with it. I couldn't be happier with the difference! Now, my compact system not only functions like my main camera, but will take the same lenses as well.

It's funny how the "feel" comes back in odd ways. I recently acquired two "E" Series Nikons; one 50mm/f1.8 and the other 28mm/f2.8. I'm constantly amazed at how good they feel compared to new newer AF glass. However, I get a reality check when I use my 50mm/f1.4 Nikkor and am reminded that back in 1979, these were considered "2nd Class"!
I do think that these lenses are about as close as I'm going to get to having a "pancake" though.

I think you have the answer already in-hand. In your situation, I believe I'd simply go the D200 route. I started with the D70, moved on to the D200 and is currently using the D300. Looking back, I found the jump from D70 to D200 astounding, but the upgrade to the D300 not nearly the same level of improvement.
Besides which, the price of D200s are ridiculously low these days!
