No, no, no. This is getting seriously spooky - history's repeating itself.
France went out without putting up much of a fight. England are left to fight Germany. And the Yanks didn't turn up until the last minute....

ps - I know - but you have to laugh!

USA were hard done by. England are terrible. At least they paid the USA the compliment of turning up for the game. Their display against Algeria was the worst I've seen by an England team in over 50 years. Looks like Slovenia are through at the moment, but it also looks like qualification will be down to goal differences in the final games. Whatever happens on the field, England's attitude stinks. Even if we manage to hammer Slovenia we won't have deserved to go through on merit over the three matches. At least USA (and Slovenia too, for that matter) have put the effort in.
Funny how 'the easiest group' can turn into 'the group of death' after two matches!

Toured HMCS Haida when I was in Hamilton Bob. (My best friend sailed as CPO on HMS Gurkha!). I'll post a couple of pictures when I get home. I thought that was an 'official' museum. If it's a private enterprise, I'm glad I bought my souvenir mug!

Got a Praktica VF that does something similar - trouble is, I'm sure the camera's fine. I can't remember what it is that I'm doing wrong. Come on - I should know this...

Gene
The whole thing about spelling, and the differences across the Atlantic are caused by those pronunciation changes. At around the time that the printing presses were getting into full swing, and incidentally 'cementing' the spelling to reflect the pronunciation at the time, the pronunciation was undergoing a massive change. Do you live in a house or a hoose? Do you listen to the news or the noos? We're totally schizophrenic over here, because the changes occurred in some parts of the country, but are still in progess in others. The only thing I'm sure about is that I'll never make a confirmatory or negatory statement in my life. I'll stick to Yes or No.

Very well Mickey, you're excused. Hurry back...
Randy - we've discussed the 'I' in aluminium before, and how you can't bring yourselves to pronounce it. Ha!

As usual there's been criticism in the press of the England fans' "moronic" tendency to add the extra syllable (Ingerland) in their songs and chants. In fact however, the original name for the 'English Speaking' parts of the country (which incidentally included large parts of Lowland Scotland), was Englaland.
So, far from being guilty of an ignorant corruption of the country's name, England supporters are in fact at the forefront of a scholarly movement to return the nation to its historical origins....
Not a lot of people know that....

You're missing the point Dave - if the 'hand of God' goal had been disallowed it would have gone to penalties, and we'd undoubtedly have gone on to win the final against Germany as a result...
Regards - John
ps The second goal wasn't that good - he only went past six defenders (admittedly a couple of them twice)....

The funniest thing of all in the build-up to the WC was the Argentina manager, Diego Maradona, appealing to everybody for fair play. Fair play? His infamous 'Hand of God' goal will be remembered forever as the most perfidious piece of deception since Pearl Harbour!

No problems with that Ron. You have a skilfull and workmanlike team. As it happens, one of our keepers is injured. so I thought the decision to leave Green on the field was a good one. Rather than destroy his confidence it boosted it - and he made a good save in the second half.

At last its back! Most of the world has stopped dead for the next few weeks - me too! Good luck to the USA (after tonight's game !), also to Australia (I drew them in the works sweep !). Whatever happens - may the best team win.
Regards to all football supporters everywhere (and those who aren't too keen should take a look - you may grow to love 'the beautiful game').
