That is an universal truth... Not that I can afford to buy a Super Ikonta, but I've an agreement with my wife that there is an upper limit to the number of cameras (reached 10 years ago...:-) and it forces one to sell as well as buy gear. From the profit - yessir - I'm able to buy really nice stuff.
Do I sound as a salesman? Even 35+ years at Big Blue isn't enough to get close to my woman in the sales area, she is a natural (and as a nurse, no commercial interest...)

Well, i got some... If you want a shooter, go for the postwar III or IV with the 2,8/80 Tessar - not very impressive as the A, B or C's but the handling is so much better. If you want one for display (and/or shoot), go for a pre-war 6x9 or 6x6 - a 532/16? Hans

... I would have the nicest Zeiss Ikon collection of the world. And I would stop collecting cameras because it spoils the adventure of camera collecting totally. Time to move on to other challenges in life!

In NL we have an electronic fleamarket site called www.marktplaats.nl where I get most of my stuff. It used to be cheaper than Ebay, but it is recommended that the wares have to be examined before you decide to buy it. As a native this is natural for me... Although the 'big' items are on Ebay (or Westlicht or wherever) sometimes one can get real gems for a very decent price. Most of my 'more exotic' gear like Contax and Contarex are from this marketplace. But even here, prices tend to go up, especialy for lenses thanks to the System Camera surge. Just take a look, if you need advise with the language, say so... Hans

Welcome to the CC!
Both are very nice cameras and should perform outstanding - it's just what you make of it. For a starter i prefer the Nikkormat, with a working exposure meter easier film handling and a more natural finder you can do hardly anything wrong with it.
The leica is more 'different', being a rangefinder and with its cumbersome film chamber layout (forgive me Leica lovers:-) but great photographers of the past worked with the Leica to a great extend. Its workmanship and lenses are about the best you can have.
Hans.

Can i have those characteristics:-) Body number (Letter + 5 numbers max) and the lens information... It's a Zeiss-Opton, so 1954 at the latest. Also the four-hole beli, which is the first model. Hans

Chris,
Some of us at the Zeiss Historica Society collect numbers to reconstruct the production history of Zeiss Ikon and the Carl Zeiss companies. Whenvere you have some time to spare, please publish the Carl Zeiss lens characteristics like: exact description of the front lens ring, the mount (M42, Exakta, LeicaTM, etc.) and any other peculiarities...
Hans
P.S. well this is a question to everybody who reads this...

You're talking to a Big Blue guy with over 35 years at the company... I started with mainframes (701 - 360 - 370 etc) and migrated a lot of Honeywell, Bull, and other brands to IBM. All electronic ones with ferrite memory cells - huge machines! My personal first was a SYM motherboard with 1K RAM and hex input/output. Costed about $ 200... Half a year later it was upgraded to a dizzling 4K at the same price (around 1973 I think) - your mainframe for 400 bucks... Hans

Just for the curious: Photography: Zeiss Ikon, some Canon and the history of the Carl Zeiss concern. Sports: Tennis, a bit of Golf lately and fitness. Geology (minerals, rocks, fossils) mainly during the holiday season. HAMradio (my callsign is PB0AAC - not very active these days: no outside antenna...) Music: Chairman of the KOVutrecht choir, Classical music like Bach and Pink Floyd. And last but not least, the family which is also the major investment area... Hans.
