Here's a challenge for you all !! See if you can identify the subjects in the following photographs.... Answers below! Any guesses? The first is a block of sandstone in a railway bridge on the west coast of Cumbria, England. The sculpted appearance has been carved solely by the wind. Told you it gets breezy up here! The second is a colony of lichen - again on the surface of a sandstone block. OK - that was a bit unfair - I didn't give you much to go on. And the third is the contents of an owls stomach after it has digested everything else. It kindly threw up this ball of hair and bones on my skylight window. I'm grateful that the window was closed at the time! Here's another wind carving.... Regards - John ps Wasn't sure where to put this, but it seemed a thing we could have a little fun with.....

Nice game, John. I almost got the first one. I guessed it was erroded sandstone, but I thought it was from dripping water and that you had been devious and turned the picture 90 degrees. . The second one I thought was a broken safety glass windscreen, so that was way out, and I hadn't got a clue about the third. PeterW

John,
I got the first one. I thought the second was an aerial view of the polar ice cap. I was sure the third was navel lint.
What a great game. Perhaps the administrators, supervisors, wardens and guards could see their way to making "WHAT ARE THEY" into a permanent thread.
