After abstaning from buying another camera on Evilbay for a while, I done it. I saw this Zenit 12XP and it caught my eye. Picked it up for $20.51 and got the Evilbay 10% discount. Anyone know what that screw head on the left rear is for? Too bad it doesn't have a manual.

I have the Zenit 11 which has a meter but isn't TTL. The thing I like most about the Zenit is the crisp focusing spot in the center of the viewfinder. Leaves no question when you are in or out of focus. Much better than Pentax. Is the Zenit 12 M42 or K mount?

Hi Randy,
I've got two Zenit 12XPs, both reliable, if a bit heavy, workhorses. If the picture is the actual camera you bought I notice that the screw holding the lever for the delayed action timer is exposed. To save you asking, it should be covered by a disc of leatherette glued in.
Wayne, the 12XP is M42.

My 12XP arrived yesterday, and the piece of leatherette was laying in the box. This camera has a loud mirror slap for sure. I'll have to buy the batteries for the meter. Other than that, it's a very clean camera...can't wait to use it.

I am in the middle of restoring/customising my TTL. I am going to keep the original black paint work after re-touching some thin areas. After that I am going to skin it with red faux snake skin from an old handbag my mother picked up for me in a thrift store for $2. I can't wait to show it off when it is finished.

Hey - that's an idea Heath.
I've looked at the cameras in 'fancy dress' that others have posted, and thought it would be nice to have a go. Those made to measure kits seemed a good idea to start with, but I've a few cameras that could do with a face lift and I couldn't possibly make them worse!
Interesting, the American site that specialised in the kits stressed that their finest leather came from the UK, but nobody over here seems to sell it (at least in smaller quantities).
I can see just a small problem with hanging around charity shops looking for handbags though.... !! Maybe I could ask a female friend ? - no, no, no - it just gets worse !!
Regards - John

My Cambron/Zenit TTL arrived yesterday, and it's cleaner yet! The meter even works. That gives me three Zenits.
