I am currently looking for a digital camera to replace my Fujifilm 3800 which allows me no manual controls and has a disaterous shutter lag.
I have spent a week and a half on the internet and in camera stores. I must balance my desire to eat with the wish to get the most versatility and control for my money. Manual control over shutter and aperture and depth of field preview and absence of shutter lag and availability of relatively low cost lenses are prerequisites. The Pentax K100D seems to be where I am heading.
Has anyone any experience with this camera? Can anyone agree with my decision or tell me not to be a damned fool?

Mickey, I've heard nothing but good things about the Pentax DSLR's. Evidently they have larger VF's than the entry-level Canons and Nikons and can be adapted easily to manual K-mount and 42mm screwmount lenses. I don't think you'll experience any noticeable shutter lag with any of the current-model DSLR's. The APS size sensors deliver really good images.
I've headed the other direction. I'll be selling my Canon 300D Digital Rebel not because of the cam (it's a sweet shooter) but because in my feeble older age I prefer really lightweight and simple gear. So I got the all-in-one Canon S3 IS that covers about 95% of my shooting situations (but does not deliver the same quality as a DSLR). Everything's a trade-off...

Mickey: Have you checked out the DP Review? It's got a lot of comparative info on the latest digital cameras.

Mickey, I have the Pentax *ist-DS DSLR and it's a fine camera. It's been discontinued in favor of the *ist-DL that has some improvements according to what I read. Pentax is a company that seems to do their homework so I'd think that the K100D would be a fine choice. I have no hands-on experience with it but from all I've read, it's top-notch. A plus ~ for me anyway ~ is that by using a K-mount adapter the older M42 Super Takumar lenses can be used. They are as good as any other lenses made by anyone.... regardless of what those stuck on a particular brand may say.

I really wanted the *ist when it first came out as I had quite a few Pentax K mount lenses. I passed because of the price and went Canon. I wish many times I had bought the Pentax.

Everyone, Thank you for your input. It is good to know that my research efforts have been justified. There is a camera show near here on Sunday that is attended by some retail dealers. I will be there with a shopping bag. Ron, I did use DP Review and found it the best site. The ability to compare various cameras side by side is an excellent way to judge the different cameras. I went and did it. Pentax K100D. I spent a little more than I wanted but that seems to go with this hobby. I bought it this morning and spent the rest of the day reading the manual. I think I shall go through it for a second time tomorrow and then see how compatible the camera and I are. It sure feels good. Don't worry T90. I shan't forsake you.

Congrats, Mickey. There are things a T90 can do that the K100D can not match. Metering for one

Good job Mickey, we'll be looking forward to some pics! When I bought my D70 (my first DSLR) I never regretted spending a dime of it. Sure, we had macaroni and cheese every night for dinner for a month, but I've had more fun with it then I care to say.
I'm sure T90 will still get plenty of action!
