I thought the depth of field (or lack of it) was what made this shot (the birdhouse was made by my father-in-law)...but I'd like some second opinions!

Nice example of depth of field, and good placing of the birdhouse, but to me it's just a bit bland, No real focus point. Sorry, Ron. Just me being Honest Injun.
Now if there had been a bird poking its head out ....

Ron
like the purposeful lack of depth of field and the placement of the tree and birdhouse..... very nice.

Hi Ron
To me the curling tendrils of the creeper (what is it by the way?), and the shadow of the vine are the focal points. I would tend to try for more of the tendrils (perhaps higher up) at the expense of the bird house (sorry father-in-law!)

The birdhouse is actually in an oak tree...a rather large oak tree...in fact a huge oak tree. The "tendrils" are actually one of the lower branches that seem to twist their way everywhere! That branch is big enough to be a tree unto itself! It was too late in the year for there to still be any birds in it...but I liked the nice patina it was getting (it's made of copper) as well as the composition. Perhaps I'll take a look at it again next spring, to see if it has any new residents!

Ronald,
I am sorry, but I cannot give a second opinion on whether or not your father-in-law build the bird house... ;D ;D Ah come on, Ron Head, quit being so technical of the sentence!!!
As for the depth of field...I like it but feel a bit less of blurred area and more closeness to the house itself would benefit the picture. I also like just the small amount of tree that you included.
The bird house looks to be metal, and reminds me of metal shop in junior high school where we made a bird house and I got an "A" on the project. The only shop class I excelled in.

I like it, but maybe if you'd pulled in just a little bit tighter. That back ground branch is a little distracting in this shot. Sherri

Ron I like the shot. I would have been tempted to drop the POV a bit lower so the branch framed the house. It may not be possible. Would have been worth a try if you could. Phil
