At school we all went on a camping trip as soon as we bought our first cars. All pictures taken with a Topcon R - bought in Ceylon for a nominal sum because it had been smuggled into the country! Notice we all had jackets on. In another picture several of us had ties/cravats - on holiday! How times have changed! Colours had gone a bit mauve, but PSP restored them almost immediately. If interested, I have lots more: The car is a 1932 (?) Ford Y type Ruined church we found

Hi Paul, I like these shots, particularly the one inside the ruined church. Do you remember what film it was? When you say the colours had gone a bit mauve, was it colour slide film or did you find the colour cast when you scanned in negs? Whichever it was, you've restored the colour beautifully. I'm glad you didn't try to 'warm up' the colours in the third picture, the slightly subdued colour and slightly cold tones really suit the subject - and you got the exposure just right to bring out the shadow details without getting a noticeable halo flare round the window. Nice picture. BTW, the Ford Y-type was introduced in August 1932, so if it was indeed a 1932 car it was quite an early one. If you've got a shot showing the full registration number (right way round? ) I might be able to date it accurately for you. Don't promise, though. Peter

It was Agfacolor 50asa - I still have the slides. Another one of the Church: Even more "atmospheric" I think We went to North Devon, so this was along the coast from Clovelly I don't want to be a bore, so will post on request Europe 1959? (Agfa Silette Solinar Brighline) Ceylon 1961? (Topcon R) Paul

I think I had a car like that green one in the top two pictures. It was in 1962 here's a lousy shot of it and me trying to get it running again - I never could!! Luke

Hi Luke,
There's something about the picture of your car that stirs a vague response. A Standard Little Nine is associated with it, but I may be barking up completely the wrong tree! I think the green car in Paul's pictures may be a Ford Model Y?

Peter, I think it was an Austin perhaps. (Or a Morris?) The shot was taken by my brother with a Pentax I believe. This was his early attempt at developing and printing his own pictures.
