I just came across two photos I took in 1968 (I was 20). I know they were taken with my (then) brand new Mamiya 1000DTL. What Kodak print film it was, I'm no longer sure. The first is of my grandfather. He was 69 when this was taken, and he lived to be 92. The second is of my younger cousin, Penny. I don't think she has ever seen this picture, so I emailed her a copy tonight!

Really nice photos Ron, the only pictures I have that I took back then are pics from the dragstrip.

Nice portraits, Ron.
I much prefer this type of portrait to the usual face-on shot. They look far less formal and the modelling is usually better.
They look as if they're taken by available light (?) even though there are two catchlights in Penny's eyes. That's another thing I prefer, when possible, to get a natural look. Penny should be delighted with this shot.
Well taken.

Thanks everyone. I don't take portraits much any more...but after finding these again I have to ask myself why. I remember taking them, and they were kind of fun.
They were natural light, Peter. They were sitting under the trees, on porch chairs in the front yard of my grandfather's house in central Tennessee (you can almost make out the out-of-focus shape of one behind Penny). I just walked around them shooting pictures.
Somewhere I should also have a picture of my grandmother taken that day....wish I could find it!

Wow! I just found the originals... and they were not prints at all (although that is what I scanned for the first two)...they were Ektachrome transparencies! Just had time to scan this one other portrait (of my Uncle Dean), that was taken around the same time in 1968 (this one was scanned right from the Ektachrome).

Found another image from that summer in '68. Must have been my year for portraits! This was my great uncle (my maternal grandmother's brother-in-law)!

and yet another! This is one of my mother's relatives...but I have forgotten who he is! I'm going to have to get this picture to my mother for her to identify him! Taken in 1968 with my Mamiya 1000DTL on Ektachrome.
