OK...so it isn't much removed from my 1968 posting, but I couldn't honestly put this there, since it was literally taken in 1967.
I intend to post other images here if I can find them, but so far this is the only one I've run across....

You might be asking yourself why is Herron posting a picture of a hinge on a charred door for? Well, two reasons...(1) some time ago I mentioned my former penchant for shooting odd "things" like manhole covers, knots in trees and, yes, burned doors...and (2) the real significance of this shot is that it was taken in the 12th Street area in Detroit in 1967. That was the year of the infamous Detroit race riots, and 12th Street was where it presumably started.
This hinge was on the door of a burned-out building (it was still smoldering at the time). In fact, there is still a tiny flame on the door (bottom left of the image). I remember that it was a Tuesday morning (the riot began Sunday night). Right after this shot was taken, I was approached by a National Guard patrol, driving through the neighborhood in a Jeep with a 50-caliber machine gun mounted in the back. They told me in no uncertain terms to get my **#@* behind (and "behind" is not the word they used) out of there...now!
I did exactly as instructed! Thinking back on it now, they probably saved my life! We can be so stupid when we're young!
I have other shots from that time (and venue) if I can find them! Taken with my Mamiya 1000DTL on Kodachrome.
