This picture was taken in 1965, 20 years after WW2 ended. The shoes were hung from the rafters of the Farmer's Co-Op in Frederick, Maryland, when their owner left to go to war in the early 1940's. The man's name was Chick Harrison and I have no idea of his fate. My father's notes say only who they belong to and where they were hanging. Walker

Very thought provoking photo Walker. Leaves no question as to his fate.

What a melancholy picture. I hope he returned.

Walker: Without your explanation, the photo has an ....OK...?... feeling about it...as if we were waiting for the other shoe to drop (no pun intended).
However, with your explanation, it becomes a very poignant image...full of untold "what if's" to ponder. One picture may "be worth a thousand words" but, occasionally, a few words make the picture even more significant.
One certainly hopes Chick Harrison made it home safe-and-sound, and just forgot about the shoes in the rafter.
But it could be otherwise...and that makes the image even more powerful.
Thanks for sharing it.
