Came across a couple of old 4x5 negs, shot back in 1968, with a Speed Graphic. I have no idea who this young lady was (she'd be about 60 today). I was in front of the Detroit Institute of Art, walking over to some construction trailers (they were doing some renovations/additions), when she approached me to ask about the camera (a Speed Graphic and accompanying film holder bag is pretty hard to conceal). She asked if I would take her picture. I said "Sure" -- and she suddenly laid on the grass! As I was taking her picture, I drew a small crowd...well, not a crowd really, five or six people. This young lady wanted me to take her picture, too (she was talking to the first girl in this shot). She laid on the grass, too (I have no idea why they did...they just did). As I recall, she had magnificent legs! Her boyfriend was less than happy with the idea. Have not found that negative yet but, believe me, I'm looking! Now that I think about it, maybe I should start carrying that old Speed Graphic again! LOL!! ;D

Ron, it's too bad it was cold outside. The girls would have been more interesting in Summer dresses.... or shorts! Seriously, those are great. Large format is hard to beat and 4x5 can give magnificent results. I hope you find the other negative. Walker

The coat of the first young lady hid more than her skirt did. The second young lady's coat was shorter...and I am looking for that negative! LOL!! ;D There are moments when I recall it was good to be 19-20! ----- BTW - I had to borrow the Speed Graphic from the newspaper I did some freelance work for. Couldn't afford to buy a Speed Graphic for myself.

!980s. Hot summer day in community park. I was shooting a Sherman M4 tank in the park when this young lady approached and asked if I would shoot her picture. She hopped up on the tank and struck this pose (Boy it was hot that day--I was sweating like mad!) Don't know if there were any psychological implications or not. I just shot the picture, confirmed my wedding ring was still on my finger and went home. She may have been a spirit. It was a real small town where everyone knew everyone and that was the only time I ever saw her. Boy it was hot that day! JUST REALIZED- THE PIC IS BACKWARDS! Here's how it looks frontwards.

LOL!! ;D Things didn't "just fall into place" at 19-20...I had to actively work at it!
I'm sure that on this particular day, my wandering around the Art Institute (which is near the college campus) with a Speed Graphic, tripod, and a large bag of film holders, had a lot to do with "enhancing the image" (mine). Those were not cameras you saw young men with very often.

Ron, I'm digging those 60's chicks! Wow, were alot of women that forward back then? I was only a toddler in '68 so I wouldn't know. Those shots you took are really, really nice. Sharp as a tack too.
Wayne, now 1980's girls I knew lots more about them and your picture reminds me so much of my first girlfriend, Debbie. I hope that wasn't her! .....just kidding.....well, maybe not....how far are you from NYC? Nice shot btw!

Forward? 1967 was called (still is) The Summer of Love for good reason! In some ways, the 60s and early 70s were very depressing for young men in the USA. The draft, Vietnam, protest marches, riots, civil rights demonstrations, and all that. In other ways, it was a marvelous time, skimpy clothes, the era of "free love," the growing assertiveness of young women, a groundswell of new appreciation for the arts, and that whole "new freedom" side of things (although I could never quite feel comfortable in bell bottoms).
