I know some of you are interested in old watches, so I combined a macro exercise with a couple of photos of my father's old watch. I don't know too much about the watche but I shot the pictures with a Nikon F100, Tamron 90 mm macro at about f11 and a tethered SB-28 omni-bounce and superia 400 film.

These are great Phil. I really like to get in close too. What's a tethered SB-28 omni-bounce? My problem has always been getting that even, softened light, but you've done it perfectly here. I was looking at those ring lights - is it one of those? The ones I've seen are specific to a particular camera. I was wondering about making a general purpose one with LEDs, but I'm not sure about the light characteristics and how compatible it would be with film. While on the subject of time pieces, this is one of the few b&w studies I've done that got the shadows right... Regards - John

John Because the lens is so close to the subject, the lens would shadow the flash if left on the camera. I used an extension cord on the flash to be able to move it up and out of the way. I was concerned about the metallic nature of the watch so I felt I had the best chance with the fully automatic features avilable to that camera and flash setup. I do have a ring flash but I would have had to use a different camera and lens. Which I might do at a later date. These shots were for insurance purposes so getting a satisfactory mood look, such as you obtained was not really an option for me. I have included a shot of an old coin taken at the same time with the same setup. Thanks for looking Phil
